• Looking For New Monitor

So I'll be buying a 2nd monitor in a couple of weeks. I'm looking around but I really have no clue on monitors. Basically, I want something in the 27-28in area. LED or LCD (LED preferred) and either 1920x1080 or 1920x1200. My budget is going to be around 300$ and that includes S/H. I don't require anything incredibly fancy. 3D and etc are just unnecessary. I'll be doing mostly gaming on this monitor and a bit of video (Not terribly much however). Any suggestions or advice? It'll be alongside my 24in Acer 5243H I have right now.
you won't manage to get a 27" for that price I'm afraid. The best you can do is a 24" LED monitor, or the 23" LED IPS from LG.

Black Fridays coming very soon and prices may drop nicely.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001431 299.99 1920x1080 LCD I had that monitor for 1 year now and I love it. Not sure if that is what you are looking for but it's a 27" under 300 [editline]9th November 2011[/editline] Oh you ninja.
I don't understand people paying $300 for a 1080p TN panel just because it's larger. Increasing the panel size lowers the clarity of the monitor, why are people wanting to pay more for this? If you're spending $300 spend it on a 120Hz TN panel or an IPS panel.

Is there a major difference between LCD and LED backlit LCD's?
Is there a major difference between LCD and LED backlit LCD's?
Neither is definitively better
Neither is definitively better
I wouldn't say that, LED backlighting means lower power consumption and longer life of the backlighting.
if you want something bigger for games and movies http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889234046&cm_sp=Cat_Televisions-_-Hot_Item-_-89-234-046
I wouldn't say that, LED backlighting means lower power consumption and longer life of the backlighting.
They also run cooler Though keep in mind my current CCFL backlight has lasted 5 or so years no problem, with intensive usage, so better life is pretty ambiguous of an advantage High end LED's can dynamically light contrast wise, and I hear RGB LED's are pretty good for picture quality (can't say for sure though) Really there isn't anything greater or worse about them all things considered. Some of their downsides are backlight bleeding if you get edge-lit, and a tendency to make colors appear cooler than normal.

Just an update. I came across a VE278Q and I went for it. It was 275$. 27in 1920x1080 LED backlit with a 2ms response time.

Most of them are blue LEDs coated with yellow phosphor to give it a white appearance. This also means you lose good white reproduction to save electricity.
