Unfortunately society seems to use such terms rather freely. I've been told by my parents society had a similar issue with racist language in the 1980s, and one can only hope that in another 20 to 30 years people will look back through the archives of our time and shudder like we do with racism today.

in 20-30 years, there will be a new collection of slurs that degrade some group of people, somewhere. it's a cycle that's been in motion for ages, and regardless of what you may think of it, it doesn't look to be ending any time soon. especially not with this new 'anti-pc' counterculture we're seeing.

Skin jobs have whats coming to them. Probably a bit further off than the gargoyles, and we can call anyone who doesnt augment their limbs with RGB leds meatbags. Im ready for the future
I'm at least 90% sure people who call you an autist online couldn't give half a shit what the word means, they just use it because it gets a reaction out of people.

Maybe so, but it doesn't mean the fight against it isn't a pointless exercise.
I'm a medically diagnosed autist and I use autistic as an insult all the time, people gotta stop taking shit so seriously.

Also Jim Jeffries is the only public role model for autism I need.

People also have different experiences living with autism, like being bullied a lot because of it, and being called an autist or retard can be more hurtful to others than it is to you. I think it's fine if you and your friends are fine with calling eachother that, but not everyone feels the same way. It's just some basic empathy.

Oh I was bullied to hell and back for it growing up, but in the grand scope of things being called mean names in school isn't the biggest tragedy in the world.

These days you have to piss me off pretty hard to get me to outright call someone an idiot or anything, but I swear if someone breaks that barrier I will unleash a torrent of verbal hell, filled with any applicable slurs, insults, or offensive phrasings I can think of, upon them.

No reason to hold back when your only goal is angering the other party.

Not any time soon, but it will eventually. As long as there are people that don't give up on progress.

Well.. Not that the guy who wrote the article would realize that if he's autistic..

Except giving a troll attention is the equivalent of feeding Gizmo the gremlin.. The angrier you get the more you're giving them what they want
Of all the autistic people I've met, they pretty much all find it funny when people call others autistic. I don't really see it as much of a taboo word
