A man who informed police when he found child abuse images on his computer has not been allowed to be alone with his daughter for four months. Nigel Robinson from Hull said he called police after trying to download music but instead finding pornographic images on his laptop last November. As a result social services said he "should not have unsupervised access with his own or other children". He said he was "totally innocent". No arrests or charges have been made. Mr Robinson, 43, recalled how on discovering the images he discussed the situation with his wife and immediately called police to report the incident. I guess it's only some safety measure? There certainly is more behind the story than the article tells us.
From the article:
Mr Robinson said: "It makes you feel as though you shouldn't have reported it in the first place." He added it would have been "a lot easier" to just throw the machine in the bin.
Hard to disagree with him on that.
At least it's only 4 months and not permanently, presumably so they can have some kind of inquiry.
At least it's only 4 months and not permanently, presumably so they can have some kind of inquiry.
Length doesn't matter, they are telling a man he can't see his child alone for four months, simply because he reported something illegal.
so you're punished if you report cp and you're punished if you dont [editline]7th March 2012[/editline]
At least it's only 4 months and not permanently, presumably so they can have some kind of inquiry.
Being removed from your daughter's life for 1/3 of a year simply because you reported something to the police is stupid. They shouldn't have to treat him as some monster because he was reporting something to the police rather than dumping it and acting like he never saw it.
No good deed goes unpunished.
Reminds me of the guy who reported a CP torrent to the police and got arrested a year later. At least I think that's how it went down.
Hooray for punishing honesty.
Lesson learned: Do not report crimes
This is not how you get people to trust their government institutions. Oh, and I saw this same news on the Daily Mail website (my mum browses it), and the headline was designed specifically to make you unsympathetic to this guy. Says a lot, doesn't it?
I think the reason for this is in case he looked it up intentionally, and then reported it so he wouldn't look guilty? Still moronic seeing as he hasn't even been charged for anything.
I think the reason for this is in case he looked it up intentionally, and then reported it so he wouldn't look guilty?.
Innocent until proven guilty and all that.
This makes me pissed, i wish i could do something to help.
Innocent until proven guilty and all that.
More like guilty until proven innocent
so you're punished if you report cp and you're punished if you dont.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
"Someone eye-witnessed a murder. Give him the chair!"
I guess it's only some safety measure? There certainly is more behind the story than the article tells us.
Bullshit. No pedophiles going to report CP he downloaded.
Does the person who decided this have some kind of mental issue or is there more to the story?
Don't you just love it when an innocent person is punished while the real criminals abusing children and affecting people are free. It's like, "We're having a hard time arresting the producers and distributors of CP, so we'll just assume anyone who has witnessed an image is a dangerous pedophile."
At least it's only 4 months and not permanently, presumably so they can have some kind of inquiry.
4 months so far. As in, he hasn't seen her for four months. Also, this is like that girl who sent nude pictures to her boyfriend on MySpace, she was forced to register as a sex offender, I think she was 16. Or that Swedish guy who got sentenced for having CP, even though it was animated and he was translating anime stuff.

Reminds me of this: http://facepunch.com/threads/856234
The FBI could not comment on this specific case, but said if child pornography is ever downloaded accidentally, the user needs to call authorities immediately. They may confiscate your computer, but it's better than the alternative.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Next up: "My house has been robbed!" "Sir, you are under arrest for breaking in, robbery and possession of lethal weapon! SIR! Put down those keys! Don't make me pull out the gun!"
Hopefully this will get national attention and bring these issues into the public eye.
Hopefully this will get national attention and bring these issues into the public eye.
Like all the other issues that never get solved anyway
That's not a surprise to me. I was arrested once for reporting physical and emotional abuse. The abused, being myself.
So... If I report a car burglar am I not allowed to drive a car for 4 months?
