I saw rumors that around $90 000 000 worth of BTC were stolen.
Price of BTC dropped quite strong due to hack (around 50$)
Good, let that shit currency plummet back to the general public prices where it belongs.
I'm absolutely shocked that this happened. How entirely unprecedented!

Why such hatred for BTC?
Good ting Bitcoin is a secure and perfectly safe digital currency.
Oh right, this is Bitcoin we're talking about.

Bitcoin is working as intended. It's exchanges security at fault. Mind that Bitfinex was hacked before.

The best part of Bitcoin is watching people learn why the regulations and safety measures we have in our economy and banking system exist first hand.

Sorry. Not buying that excuse.

It's not Bitcoin's fault! It's just all the bitcoin banks who make it piss easy to steal, really!
Why such hatred for BTC?
Because I'm secretly such an idiot that I never took chance of the explosion in value :hammered:
Sorry. Not buying that excuse.
Lots of banks that hold fiat were hacked, resulting in same number of multi million $ losses.
Lots of banks that hold fiat were hacked, resulting in same number of multi million $ losses.
The difference is that a Bitcoin "bank"s response is "tough shit", while a real bank holding real money will try and fix things

You really have no idea, what you are talking about, do you?
What bitcoin banks?
What bitcoin banks?
....BitFinex?
Are you like, all there in the head?
....BitFinex?

It's an exchange.

Of course he isn't, he still thinks Bitcoin is a relevant currency (beyond child porn and drugs, of course).

Mt. Gox clients got money back, and hacker (inside job) got into jail.
BitStamp that was hacked, clients didn't lose money (because exchange paid clients back)
ShapeShifter got hacked 3x, clients never lost money (though exchange did lost some)
BitFinex idiots also returned money.
So, exchanges that are too big to fail need to return moneys clients or they will lose business, risk big lawsuit and public hatred.
Sure, lots of scams around bitcoin, but that is nature of internet. Same shit happens with credit cards.

Bitcoin might die someday, but block chain technology will live on and evolve.
[editline]3rd August 2016[/editline]
Estimate of stolen coins is 100-125 thousand bitcoins.
Bitcoin might die someday, but block chain technology will live on and evolve
Yeah, as a way for scumbags to justify massive warehouses full of thousands of ACICs eating up massive amounts of power.
all the bitcoin hate, that was unexpected. I like it. I don't use it in every day life, but I feel like it's something that needs to exist, it has its place. would be nice if it was more adopted by businesses and storefronts.
So is this a fault of the currency or a fault of the exchange not keeping certain numbers and data safe?
So is this a fault of the currency or a fault of the exchange not keeping certain numbers and data safe?
Not known yet for sure, but my bet is exchange, since they have history of being hacked.
$50?
Time to invest.

Never mind, they're up to $515 a piece.
Yep.. I almost made 150€ in 1 second (that micro-dip), but one shitty javascript error made everything go to hell.
Time to watch this like a hawk, the second there's another decent dip like people seem to think there will be, I'm all over that shit

You're not forced to buy a whole bitcoin, just buy like 0.001 of a bitcoin
700 dollars for a bitcoin? I was actually hoping to buy them cheaply.
You're not forced to buy a whole bitcoin, just buy like 0.001 of a bitcoin
The point is that the mean reversion already happened. Efficient markets did their thing.
Bitcoin is so interesting. I love that it exists. I don't know why, it is just neat.
Why the hell is it cool to hate bitcoins lmao.
And what the fuck is a Bitcoin bank? Exchanges are not banks and never have been. It seems you guys just love to hate something you know nothing about. Yes it's not perfect, but it's not this terrible failure that you all make it out to be (have you ever used Bitcoin?) and it works fine for what it is.
Lost a good chunk of money from this, as I had recently exchanged USD into about 1/3 of a bitcoin. Gonna hold onto it for a bit longer in hopes the market recovers, but I doubt prices will rise back to where they were.
