For Music class, I was told to make a set of lyrics and have it sung/spoken to music. I decided to leave it at spoken-word, because I can't sing. So, I wrote a sonnet. A simple sonnet having to do with love. After letting the teacher give me his opinion on it, he told me I should have soft jazz (Or something similar) playing the background while I present it to the class. Now, to add insult to injury, he read what I wrote on the back of the sheet with the Sonnet:
(I came up with this while working on the Sonnet, this is pretty much me shitting on the school because it's horrible and full of thuggish morons)
The problem is, he told me to have something "dark" playing in the background. Now, the lyrics are due tomorrow (Entire set of lyrics are done, so this isn't a "FP do my homework" thread) but the problem is I still can't figure out what the hell to have playing the background. I don't think Jazz really fits a sonnet, even if it is based on Love.
Have some sort of classical guitar or something similar to that.
Like this:

but a bit more of a menacing feel to it.

Jazz is a very expandable and applicable genre which obviously you are not aware of.
It's probably to complex for you though, you might want to go with a more dumbed down genre.
I'm sorry, I apologize for kind of going off topic but I'm reminded of Rollins Band.

Rollins kind of does a spoken word thing, and when reading your writing it sounds like it would go good to something like that of a soft jazz or rock but not so dark just to throw people off.
Mose Allison has a few soft jazz/blues instrumental songs such as, one of my favourites; Don't Even Say Goodbye. Couldn't find it on youtube though.

If you like this, you should see his other stuff.
Black Flag is spoken word to.
He's talking about Beat poetry.

If you find a good song and change it a bit so it "swings" with the music, I'll sound great.
