But the 2014/15 budget includes a one per cent cut in their base funding, described as a "down payment" on an efficiency study completed earlier this year. Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull said all government bodies needed to play a role in building a stronger economy. "By sharing the load, we lighten the load," he said. Mr Turnbull said better work practices would make it easier to find the savings.
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/2014/05/13/19/43/abc-sbs-budgets-cut Posted the whole thing, fuck you Tony Abbott
Do you guys not have a TV licence or anything? Over here the government can't just cut the BBCs budget. In fact all they have a say in the budget is how much an each individual payer pays a year for so many years.
Which one of you Australian posters said it was a wild suggestion that Abbott would cut the ABC's budget? Because I hope you eat your words

Is there a link to what exactly the money will cut out of SBS/ABC? Hopefully nothing drastic, and this turns out to be sensational.

Isn't he cutting all of these? Like he literally stated here that he wont be cutting the things that are getting the biggest cuts (including medicare and hospitals which I presume come under health). I can't believe some idiots actually voted for him.

Isn't that shopped from this? If not, Abbott and Clegg should hook up [t]http://imgkk.com/i/igqc.jpg[/t]
Yes but that is something he said during his election promises speech, they put it there to emphasis he is standing for what he said
I think that last year Election, was the first time everyone just became dumb, and didn't think about the consequences. Hopefully this is a wake up call for Australians, so they realize they need to actually think about the people they vote for and what they would gain, and not vote for some other group because the other group wasn't that good. I am not saying all Australians didn't think, just the people who voted for Tony.
Why have a TV licence system for something every household owns?
Because it stops the government trying to influence its output by having a independent funding source and in our system at least sets out the amount that each payer has to pay for a year for so many years so it prevents the sudden stopping of funding that appears to of happened here.

We have a budget deficit of 30bn from Labor, cuts are being made everywhere, even in places they shouldn't be, and there's STILL a budget deficit. Just goes to show that the debt is actually fucking terrible for the country and people are underestimating Australia's debt capacity because they're comparing to US, UK and other countries. Australia made the right choice at the election, although Tony has made the wrong choices in office.
