Mel Gibson is mulling joining the DC Extended Universe … as a director.
Warner Bros. is courting the actor-director to helm Suicide Squad 2 and the sides are early in talks, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. No official offer has been made nor has any commitment.
Sources say that Gibson is familiarizing himself with the material. But the studio is not being passive and is also looking at other directors, Daniel Espinosa among them.
David Ayer directed the initial outing, which featured an all-star cast that included Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto. The 2016 movie faced some hurdles during production and was met with somewhat polarizing response, but grossed $745 million worldwide, enough to put a sequel on the fast-track.
Ayer is now developing Gotham City Sirens, a project that reunites him with Robbie and focuses on the female villains of the DC Universe.
???????
Mel is talented at directing but I don't see him taking this, he really wants to fix his rep and this won't help.
I'm not even surprised at this point that Suicide Squad is getting a sequel nobody asked for.
Don't tempt me, Mel
Why the fuck would you want Mel Gibson to direct Suicide Squad 2? All of his movies are very mature and dark. They seriously don't know what they're doing with the DC movies.
Gibson could do a good job with it.
Suicide Squad as a comic is interesting and it features both humour and darkness, depending on the writer in equal shades. Gibson doesn't really do comedy, but he's a super talented director who understands film and film structure, and theory better than the vast majority of directors working today. He could probably make it work.
With that being said, he won't take it, and DC is really proving that their department, and people, in charge of the filmic universe that DC wants to build, are fucking retarded

But...isn't SS supposed to be dark?
I mean...it's called Suicide Squad.

The Suicide is supposed to imply they're super disposable and probably will all die, sorta like a Suicide Mission. It isn't about committing Suicide.
Take a look at Assault on Arkham, it's basically everything a Suicide Squad movie should be but it isn't super depressing or mature, it's just darker than a Marvel movie.

The movie did really well at the box office.

DC has essentially a reverse Marvel problem, where Marvels only good material at the moment are their live action adaptions (of the ones being produced at Disney only half are actually produced under Marvels wing, even), while DC's good material is in everything but their live action adaptions (from what i understand anyway).
I have an unsourced quote from Gibson stating that he dislikes all matters of superhero movies, going as far to say it's a money laundering scheme. Best of luck to Warner Bros.

Doesn't that make him the best choice?
Ayers film was meant to be a mature and dark SS, like Ostranders original comic. But then someone clearly forgot to send a memo and we got the schizophrenic mess that was SS. Now they seem to want to go back to the dark and mature take but it seems a little late for that now.
Mel directing something akin to Ostranders SS could potentially be great but god damn who the fuck could trust Warner Brothers at this point?

Latest quote I saw was
What do you make of the current wave of superhero movies? In the 80s, blockbusters were more star-driven.
Some are good. Some are kind of funny ... Guardians of the Galaxy. Or the first Iron Man. And some of them are just like retreats. I mean you can watch them do Spider-Man five times ... There is a slight shift in film. But, then again, I think all films are suffering from people not being able to now open them with their name. It’s a different kind of business these days.
They'll probably throw him out halfway too.
They'll probably throw him out halfway too.
No, they'll go through with it, then throw his cut out the window and give the footage to a trailer editing house.
The movie did really well at the box office.
It's basically the first main live adaptation of Harley Quinn, and they rode that point really hard with marketing. It worked.

And I swear they picked the worse design for her they could.
And I swear they picked the worse design for her they could.
Her design is a hell of a lot better than most of the stripper costumes she's been wearing since Arkham Asylum popularised her not wearing the damn harlequin outfit.

Wow, that quote, couldn't agree more actually. Guardians and the first Iron Man are honestly the pinnacle of superhero movies for me. Every Iron Man past the first has felt lifeless and had a significant change in tone from the first. One of the reasons why I'm not actually hyped for Guardians 2. The moment Marvel realizes it can franchise something, it turns it into a generic 'safe' blend of upbeat mediocrity. They're not bad, but they're certainly not anything like they could be.
Somebody needs to tell them not to make a suicide squad 2.
Somebody REALLY needs to tell them.
Sure, hire a guy who probably never read a fucking comic his entire life direct a DC movie, let alone the sequel to a failed DC movie.
Fucking dense motherfuckers
Sorry if obvious but why is Mel Gibson reputation frowned upon? I thought the roles hes played (Patriot,Braveheart) and the films hes directed (Apocalpto) were astonishing

Anti-semetic and racist comments. All his actual artistic works and roles have been great
The most bizarre thing about ss was the fact that it has a cult following. Same kinda people that think transformers movies are good. SS was a cringy disorganized mess made by and for hot topic kids. I guess even the biggest turds will have fan bases tho
As long as they market the shit out of it and have recognizable characters they'll be successful. I wish the DC cinematic universe would just flop over and die though. It's fucking terrible. "Nolan's movies were more realistic and dark so we should up the ante and be super grimdark! That'll work!"
Of any director, Mel fucking Gibson? I'd rather see Quentin Tarantino take a shot at it :v:

So that's it, huh. They're some kinda Suicide Squad?
