A US man was being held in jail today after allegedly chasing a group of children with a sword.
Police said a group of children was walking in Tarpon Springs, Florida - which is about 48km north-west of Tampa - at around 10.19pm (local time) when they saw Derek Gerard Hanson, 22, wearing a black trench coat and carrying a 1m sword, the St Petersburg Times said.
The children lost sight of Mr Hanson when he went into a wooded area. He allegedly reappeared, brandished the sword, and started rapidly walking towards the children, who called police.
When police officers arrived on the scene, Mr Hanson admitted to carrying the sword but said he did not threaten the children.
He was arrested and held in jail on six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Just missed it, bugga.
I'm imagining him looking like something out of the Matrix with a sword and trench coat
while it does seem odd he was holding a sword, this could just be some asshole kids making up shit
He says he never threatened them, so not sure.
What kind of a sword? European? Leaf blade?
Longsword is the only way to go man.
how is that six counts of aggravated assault when he didn't even hit them? Please explain that to me. He did not cause injury to any of them at all. If anything that would just count as a non-verbal threat. If he wanted to really hurt them it would have happened already, and it didn't...for all we know he could have just been fucking around or joking or something rather.
our society is fucking ridiculous
It wasn't a sword, it was a machete, and the man in question was Charlie Sheen.

The actual definition of assault is threatening to cause serious bodily harm (at least in the court system). When you actually hit someone, it becomes Battery.

Well that's confusing
In Canada threatening is just a threatening charge, and the action is Assault. So in the US, Assault is the threat and the action is Battery? That's confusing as hell.
He needs to respec, his HIT is too low.
just use a gun retard then youll maybe actually kill some of the sprogs next time
Police said a group of children was walking
Was walking.
I am imagining a demoknight running around after children. It makes this story hilarious
Was walking.
The grammar is correct because the subject of the sentence is the group.
A group was walking.
Children were walking.
Yeah, definitely sounds like fucking Charlie Sheen

No it's the same here
Assault is an offence under s. 55 of the Criminal Code of Canada. Similar to the United States, there are many different ways in which an assault can occur. Generally, an assault occurs when a person directly or indirectly applies force intentionally to another person. It can also occur when a person attempts to apply such force, or threatens to do so, without the consent of the other person.
We also have "assault causing bodily harm" which is what would happen if you physically hurt someone while assaulting them.
Bodily harm is defined as any hurt or injury to a person that interferes with the health or comfort of the person and that is more than merely transient or trifling in nature.
