(Reuters) - The U.N. Security Council on Thursday approved the creation of a unique new combat force that is to carry out "targeted offensive operations" to neutralize armed groups in conflict-torn eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The 15-member Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution establishing the so-called intervention brigade - the first time the United Nations has created such a unit within a traditional peacekeeping force - as part of the existing 20,000-strong U.N. force in Congo, the U.N. Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, known as MONUSCO. It says MONUSCO will "carry out targeted offensive operations through the Intervention Brigade ... either unilaterally or jointly with the (Congo army), in a robust highly mobile and versatile manner ... to prevent expansion of all armed groups, neutralize these groups, and to disarm them."
source

Man, this would have been useful against the machete hordes that went around killing fucking everyone in Rwanda.
We're going to peacekeep the FUCK out of you
I just want them to call something UNATCO.
UNSC is the future AND I DON'T MEAN THE SECURITY COUNCIL :pwn:
This is called "Peace-making forces", I believe.
"We're here to make peace and kick ass."
"We're here to make peace and kick ass."
"and we're all out of peace."
They should all be equipped with peacemakers.
Will they still wear the bright blue gear?
Will they still wear the bright blue gear?
I would assume so. It sounds like they're just a branch of Peacekeepers that don't wait for the situation to get totally out of control before stepping in. Which, honestly, is something the UN should have done long ago.
As good as this sounds, it shouldn't be labelled as peacekeepers, they're the exact opposite of peacekeepers if they're doing more than just defend stuff and people.
Man, this would have been useful against the machete hordes that went around killing fucking everyone in Rwanda.
And the conflict in Bosnia. Heck, the 90s in general.
As good as this sounds, it shouldn't be labelled as peacekeepers, they're the exact opposite of peacekeepers if they're doing more than just defend stuff and people.
Considering they already named an ICBM "Peacekeeper", I think we can let this slide.
So they're gonna tape angrily worded letters to cruiser missiles?
Who is peacekeeping the peacekeepers?
Who is peacekeeping the peacekeepers?
Angry letters.
Peace through superiour firepower. I like it.
Man, this would have been useful against the machete hordes that went around killing fucking everyone in Rwanda.
I think we learned from Rwanda and Bosnia that it's not a good idea to trust Belgians or Danes with defending people.
If they don't call it the United Nations Global Defence Initiative I'm going to be disappointed.
