Upon receiving a transmission of unknown origin from a nearby planetoid, the ship's computer awakens the crew.[SUP][13][/SUP] Acting on orders from their corporate employers, the crew detaches the Nostromo from the refinery and lands on the planetoid, resulting in some damage to the ship. Captain Dallas (Tom Skerritt), Executive Officer Kane (John Hurt), and Navigator Lambert (Veronica Cartwright) set out to investigate the signal's source while Warrant Officer Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), Science Officer Ash (Ian Holm), and Engineers Brett (Harry Dean Stanton) and Parker (Yaphet Kotto) stay behind to monitor their progress and make repairs. Dallas, Kane, and Lambert discover that the signal is coming from a derelict alien spacecraft. Inside it they find the remains of a large alien creature whose ribs appear to have been exploded outward from the inside. Meanwhile, the Nostromo's computer partially deciphers the signal transmission, which Ripley determines to be some type of warning. Kane discovers a vast chamber containing numerous eggs, one of which releases a creature that attaches itself to his face. Dallas and Lambert carry the unconscious Kane back to the Nostromo, where Ash allows them inside against Ripley's orders to follow the ship's quarantine protocol. They unsuccessfully attempt to remove the creature from Kane's face, discovering that its blood is an extremely corrosive acid. Eventually the creature detaches on its own and is found dead. With the ship repaired, the crew resume their trip back to Earth. Kane awakens seemingly unharmed, but during a meal before re-entering stasis he begins to choke and convulse until an alien creature bursts from his chest, killing him and escaping into the ship. Lacking conventional weapons, the crew attempt to locate and capture the creature by fashioning motion trackers, electric prods, and flamethrowers. Brett follows the crew's cat into a large room where the now-fully-grown Alien attacks him and disappears with his body into the ship's air shafts. Dallas enters the shafts intending to force the Alien into an airlock where it can be expelled into space, but it ambushes him. Lambert implores the remaining crew members to escape in the ship's shuttle, but Ripley, now in command, explains that the shuttle will not support four people. [sp]Accessing the ship's computer, Ripley discovers that Ash has been ordered to return the Alien to the Nostromo's corporate employers even at the expense of the crew. Ash attacks her, but Parker intervenes and decapitates him with a blow from a fire extinguisher, revealing Ash to be an android. Before Parker incinerates him, Ash predicts that the other crew members will not survive. The remaining three crew members plan to arm the Nostromo's self-destruct mechanism and escape in the shuttle, but Parker and Lambert are killed by the Alien while gathering the necessary supplies. Ripley initiates the self-destruct sequence and heads for the shuttle with the cat, but finds the Alien blocking her way. She unsuccessfully attempts to abort the self-destruct, then returns to find the Alien gone and narrowly escapes in the shuttle as the Nostromo explodes. As she prepares to enter stasis, Ripley discovers that the Alien is aboard the shuttle. She puts on a space suit and opens the hatch, causing explosive decompression which forces the Alien to the open doorway. She shoots it with a grappling gun which propels it out, but the gun is yanked from her hands and catches in the closing door, tethering the Alien to the shuttle. It attempts to crawl into one of the engines, but Ripley activates them and blasts the Alien into space. She then puts herself and the cat into stasis for the return trip to Earth.[/sp] (I know that this was copied off of Wikipedia. I normally don't do this for my movie threads, but since most of it accidentally got deleted, I did it because I did not want to have to type all of that stuff again. The synopsis got pretty damn lengthy.) My 10 Cents I recommend this movie. This film started the Alien franchise which gave us Aliens (directed by James Cameron) along with Alien 3 (directed by David Fincher), make of that what you will. The only downside to this was that it also gave use Alien Resurrection, which not even Joss Whedon's writing could save. Then, followed the Alien vs Predator franchise. God help us all. Anywho, this is a great film. Now I guess I shall give you the rest of the info. Directed by Ridley Scott Produced by Gordon Carroll David Giler Walter Hill Written by Dan O'Bannon Enjoy.
I just want a new one made by Ridley Scott.
The phallic imagery in this movie turned my son gay
This movie was pretty good. Although the massive amount of pop-culture that surrounds it, sort of ruined a lot of it. Still, worth a watch.
My Dad showed me this movie when I was a baby, maybe four at most. To this day, it's still one of my favorite movies. Went through a whole stage where I bought all these xenomorph action figures, still have a few of them. Those and the nightmares. Souvenirs, I guess.
I think Aliens was the best of the series.
Great movie, too bad they couldn't stop making sequels to it. Here's hoping the prequel turns out good and doesn't take away from this film any.
Oh man. The one where Joss Whedon wrote it was terrible.
I remember growing with my mum always watching those films, i was interested in them since i like sci-fi but i always got nightmares only from watching a few minutes of it. Wasn't until i was like 12-13 until i could watch them normally without getting nightmares.
I remember some Arcade game of this, my dad played it in Heathrow Airport while we waited for a plane. It had an animated video showing how Facehuggers worked. My 6 year old mind shat itself.
I still haven't seen Alien or any of the sequels, a friend of mine is going to lend me his boxset though.
I still haven't seen Alien or any of the sequels, a friend of mine is going to lend me his boxset though.
Don't watch 4. It is horrible.
1&2 Are really the only two that are worth watching, 3 was passable, and 4 was revolting.
Yeah, the second film is still good. It's better to stop watching them after that one though.

Still, I thought it was worth the wait.
They should've stopped at Aliens, but the third one is still alright in my book. The monk-planet script would've been a lot more awesome though imo.
Very good film. I still have to see aliens tho
One of my favourite movies of all time. Still don't know if I prefer this or Aliens.
great film my favorite, tied with alien 3 extended cut not the workprint, the official one aliens was great, havent seen resurrection [editline]9th July 2011[/editline] in the alien series of course favorite film is a threeway tie between day of the dead battle royale and jurassic park
1&2 Are really the only two that are worth watching, 3 was passable, and 4 was revolting.
3 was annoying since it retconed parts of the ending to Aliens to make an excuse for how an alien egg got on board. They should've just taken it in another direction that would've actually made sense, like where the aliens came from. At least Ridley Scott is (I think) doing that now. I just wish it was in a sequel format with Ripley, instead of a prequel.
True, but I doubt Prometheus will be anything less than awesome.
The commentary on the dvd of this is superb. Ridley always reveals cool stuff. haha, rubber gloves. :v:
Watching this for the third time, this time more for the technology. I fucking love looking at all the conceptual stuff. First thing to catch my eye was this sweet coffee hutch. god damn sweet.
Alien and Aliens were genuine films. The first being a sort of thriller and the second being a great action/horror/thriller. The third didn't really feel necessary, and the fourth felt like a generic action film. I feel AVP1&2 could've been done better (2 being better than 1,) and I really can't wait for Prometheus to come out. With Ridley back in the director's seat, I'm sure it'll be great.
My father, aunt, and mother all agree that this movie scared them when they were kids. My father went into a small monologue at how good the first one was at building suspense.
I agree. The suspense is superbly done.
One of my favourite movies of all time Aliens is my favourite though, looking forward to the prequel.
The sets in these films were always great.

I loved this movie. By the way wasn't the alien to have implied to rape lambert? because i kept thinking it would kinda work well with the imagery and theme of the film
