When you can't feel individual keys on a touchscreen device it can be hard to type at speed.
That is why Tactus, a company based in California, has developed technology which can turn a typical flat tablet screen into a real keyboard with bumpy buttons.
The keyboard rises from the tablet when needed, before disappearing when the typing is done.
Micah Yairi from Tactus explained how it works.
I knew about this a while ago, but meh not too excited about it
I wonder if it sounds strange when I say that those bubbles look fun to poke at
I foresee a brave new world of bubble-wrap popping apps.
Porn with breasts that turn lumpy.
I'm throwing my wallet at my monitor and nothing is happening!

This solves my only problem with touchscreens - not being able to feel anything

You need to take the money out first.
That is really fucking neato.
This solves my only problem with touchscreens - not being able to feel anything
eh. i'd still rather have a keyboard seperate from the screen itself in most any situation
Wasn't this pointed out in another thread about this that the keys were static bubbles? The software would have to conform to the shape of the keyboard.
i pictured a tablet turning into a lumpy ball of some sort when i read the title
slightly disappointed (although im not sure what would be practical of a tablet that turns into a lumpy ball, but whatever)
Ehh I still like normal buttons better, this probably feels awful compared to them
And the lumps are static, so you can't change the shape of your keyboard at all.

It will surely bring a breakthrough in the breast exam simulator market.

as opposed to the shapeshifting keyboards we have now?

You mean the buttons don't actually go down?
as opposed to the shapeshifting keyboards we have now?
I find this kind of entitlement hilarious because people say "NO, FUCK THAT" to a new, amazing technology because it isn't newer and more amazing than it is.
This is exactly what I sketched many times over in my school notebooks when I was trying to figure out what would make my iPod touch a device with more utility. I didn't design it to move because that's ridiculous future tech for now. People who make posts like this don't tend to understand technology beyond the fact that it does things when it works, and doesn't when it doesn't.
You mean the buttons don't actually go down?
As in the buttons won't move if you were to install a new keyboard
My fucking brain just exploded.
Wow this would be good for gaming stuff on touchscreens
Unlimited buttons for real!

Similar sort of thing, and not set to one keyboard or layout either
i honestly expected
Ribbed for her pleasure.

Just check the video. The keys are not static bubbles, they pop up when you want to type into something.
Even the article clearly says that they pop out.
is it just me or does it have a really 90s design kinda look to it
[editline]14th January 2013[/editline]
maybe it just looks older because the verge apparently took that photo with a fucking banana

by static they mean that the buttons don't change position. all software has to be designed around the placement of the buttons. this can convolute the design process if there are multiple devices with different keyboard layouts because you would need a separate design for each one.
Can this also be use for blind people? This could make computers etc more accessible for them.
