While his wife was away on business he killed his eldest daughter and, because his son saw what he had done, he killed his son as well. When the wife came home, he offered her food, saying: 'We have meat.'
It's really disturbing to think about how a country like North Korea can still operate in the modern age. Their defunct type of society should have been abolished long ago.
Why hasn't the UN liberated north korea yet? If there are human rights violations going on you cant just dismiss it as ''Its their culture'' and use it as an excuse. You have to do something about it.

Shit; On a second pass of SH I noticed a thread had already been made fuck, no wonder I didn't see it, it was locked [editline]28th January 2013[/editline] Oh someone posted it too

Of course they can't just dismiss it but they can't really do much with a dictator running the country with a huge military. Especially with the allies NK has.

Sure, they'd be able to win, but not after a long, difficult, bloody struggle. We're still working off the surplus of Purple Hearts we made in preparation for that invasion... Then you'd have problems reversing the indoctrination they had incurred and integrating them into normal South Korean life once the country has been reunified, plus repairing the country, ending the famine-like conditions, possibly restructuring the country's infrastructure and military, and so forth. Nobody's willing to invest that much, militarily and otherwise, to end it.
Because it would turn into a war that's why. Even China has pretty much abandoned them, especially since they need to deal with all the refugees that come over the border into their country all the time.
one country invading NK would set off a goddamn chain reaction of wars. Not worth it, in the bigger picture of things.

Those people over there are probably going to bed every night thinking, "Why has help not come yet? Is the government really that good at coverups?"
You know how if you're playing Civilization and you're successful in the modern age, you'll eventually come across a Civ still using caravels and knights on horseback? My reaction to that scenario is the exact same as reading news about North Korea.
Why hasn't the UN liberated north korea yet?
Probably because the UN has an 0 for 1 track record when it comes to liberating North Korea Sure, the technological gap has since widened, but NK still has a pretty fuckhuge army no matter how you look at it.

If it was Mexico instead, would the US want it? No way in hell.

I'm doubtful NATO wants North Korea to be annexed into China and I'm doubtful an independent North Korea would make it very far. To be honest and true, reunification is the only tangible path.

At the end of the day, every country will accept having a North Korea if it means they get to be first world.
