Is it safe to add RAM via an external disk drive or USB with Windows ReadyBoost ?
Yes (as long as there is nothing you want on there). Just don't expect much improvement, nothing beats real RAM.

It works, but remember it's not as effective as actual RAM is.
It's not anything like RAM at all, don't waste your money buying a flash drive for adding 'RAM' to your PC. All it will do is speed up the opening of some programs.
