The Coalition has once again had to distance itself from Liberal senator Cory Bernardi after the controversial senator stood by his comments that linked gay marriage to bestiality.
In an interview with Adelaide's The Advertiser today, Senator Bernardi described the public reaction to his comments in September as "hysteria".
He told the newspaper that there was "integrity" to his argument that if the definition of marriage was changed to allow same sex couples to marry, then there would be a case for other changes in the future.
"You can bet your bottom dollar there are always going to be demands to redefine it in other ways as well," he said.

This morning, shadow attorney-general George Brandis said that Senator Bernardi's views on gay marriage were not shared by the Coalition or "hardly anyone".
Senator Brandis said he had not yet read the interview but had heard Senator Bernardi's comments in the Senate last month.
"If he repeated [that view] in this interview [it] does not represent the view of the Liberal Party, the National party, the Coalition's ... it's his own view, I think, shared by hardly anyone," he told Sky News.
Last month, Opposition Leader Tony Abbott sacked Senator Bernardi from the Coalition frontbench after he made the initial comments in the Senate.
Today, Senator Bernardi - who was also demoted when Malcolm Turnbull was opposition leader - acknowledged that he had put Mr Abbott in a tough position.
But Senator Bernardi said that modern politics was about "twisting and distorting words for political gain".
"You cop it sweet when you get it wrong, but this is an absurdity when you can't raise, I think, legitimate points with this sort of hysteria."
Sarah Hanson-Young of the Greens - who is also a South Australian senator - told reporters in Canberra this morning that Senator Bernardi wanted to "fan intolerance".
"What an embarrassment Cory Bernardi is to the Liberal Party," she said.
"He's been condemned both inside and outside his own party ... and he still can't grasp that what he said was offensive."
Earlier this week, Senator Bernardi was given a pay rise when he was appointed as a temporary Chairman of Committees, a role with a 3 per cent salary loading that is worth about $5700 a year.
The nomination of a temporary chairman is the prerogative of the president, but in practice the parties choose their nominees.
But will it lead to Gay Bestiality? Or will those poor discriminated folks have to wait another couple of decades for the equality they deserve.
People into beastiality don't want to marry animals they want to fuck them

I like to say that they'd rather take the knot, rather than tie it.
Isn't having sex with animals more legal than gay marriage already?
Isn't having sex with animals more legal than gay marriage already?
Technically.
Isn't having sex with animals more legal than gay marriage already?
In some states.
You know you've said something bad when even Tony Abbott thinks you've gone too far.

Isn't that the problem?
What an unintelligible thread title.
In some states.
Why are those state's laws still based around the bible instead of equality.

I know this is just one of those dumb jokes about the liberal bias on Facepunch but the Aussie Liberals are actually the right wing guys, Labor are the Lefties.
