[release]What is Google Voice?[/release]
Google Voice is a telecommunications service by Google launched on March 11, 2009. Google Voice had some 1.4 million users in October 2009, 570,000 of which used the service 7 days a week. The service is configured and maintained by the user in a web-based application, styled after Google's e-mail service, Gmail. Google Voice currently provides free PC-to-PC voice and video calling worldwide between users of the Google Voice and Video Chat browser plugin (available for Windows, Intel-based Mac OS X, and Linux)

In my opinion, this thing is pretty cool. You can set up your own number and just give that number out without having to give out your "real" number. It forwards calls to you, texts, and the sorts. You can text while you're on your computer or you can choose to call someone. It's pretty cool.

my GV phone number is exactly the same as the local police departments, just with a different area code.
leads to some weird voicemails.
My Google Voice number's last four digits are my name, ZACK (9225).
fuck yeah
You can only get your own phone number if you live in the states.
However, if you get someone to make you one in the states you can use it in canada and receive calls, place calls, texts ect.
I'm confused.
What makes this different from apps like Whatsapp and Heywire? (minus publicity)

texting wise...
I use Google Voice as my voicemail provider. Love it. I love being able to have all my voicemails right there. In addition, use it ALL the time for Craigslist. It's a god send being able to block creepy people instantly.
