• Canadians, Brits, Frenchies, are you happy with your respective healthcare systems?

I live in the south and I've heard a lot of anti-healthcare reform statements from my right-winged neighbors and friends. They claim that the nationalized Canadian, French, and British healthcare systems are crap, and have no hope in hell of ever working. Some commonly heard comments are: "Emergency room patients under national healthcare systems have to wait for HOURS to receive treatment." "The countries can barely afford the system they run, and are taxing the living hell out of the citizens." "Doctors that work in these systems are underpayed, and are therefore not motivated to do well in their work." etc... Basically, they portray nationalized healthcare to be inefficient, weak, and generally hopeless. So, I want to know how valid these comments are from any Canadian, British, French, or any other citizen of a nation with nationalized healthcare who is willing to share. Do you feel comfortable with your systems?
i like reading these kind of threads, because people care too much. but,let me say this,i have dual citizenship and i know what socialist based health care vs private based health care is like from experience...and i hate private.thats all i am going to say ive had enough arguing about it and i could care less if you sound smart in a argument because it can not beat my experience btw not a lot of people can't actually afford health care in America so shut up WOW WHO THE FUCKED EDITED MY ARTICLE TO SAY "CAN AFFORD HEALTH CARE"
I like my healthcare.
I like mine too
I'm British and I've never died yet. I think it's safe to say our healthcare is free and comparable in quality to yours.
Canuck healthcare

twice [editline]01:04AM[/editline] fuck it
Surely they would get rid of the systems if they did not like it.
Well I can agree about it sometimes taking hours to achieve treatment but the rest are rubbish, health care system is adequate.
Aren't you the guy who failed to deliver in the "I will post a picture everyday of my life" thread?
Yes, the first time I failed because of the bump protection on your own threads, but this time I haven't been out for a long while since I took the Xmas period off from work.

Sure, it has flaws, but which healthcare system doesn't, being it payable via taxes or insurance? I hate my local hospital (I'm british so they're on the NHS) as they have complete disregard for the welfare of their patients, my grandad was victim to this and sadly passed away due to a strain of CDiF which he caught in the hospital. Kind of ironic, he only went in due to a chest pain and was expected to make a full recovery but ended up catching a disease in an institution designed to save lives. Saying that though, i'm not going to generalise. The NHS are pretty good, you just get a few half assed doctors and nurses here and there.
Free health should be a godamn human right I think its ridiculous that America took this long to get some sort of fair health care system in place, people shouldnt have to pay to not be sick. The NHS has saved my arse many times over, and I havent had to pay them a thing. It's a great system, but its let down by the dumb fuck politicians , they are the flaws in the NHS, not the system itself. Besides, theres still private health care. I really don't see why you septics fear the new system being thought up. Everyone gets health care, if you want the best health care you can pay for it and have it done privately, absolutely bloody nothing wrong with that. Seems to be some inherent cultural fear instilled in America where it's wrong for anyone to help you out but yourself, if the people give it a chance it'll be one of the best things to happen to America in a long damn while.

How else do you think it's funded? Tax payers.
The region in Canada where I live suffers very little from the issues you've presented here:
"Emergency room patients under national healthcare systems have to wait for HOURS to receive treatment."
Emergency rooms are never full around here, there are enough hospitals to supplement the need.
"The countries can barely afford the system they run, and are taxing the living hell out of the citizens."
This isn't true. These taxes hardly hamper the average person's income on any incredible scale, and industry is currently at a boom. The extra taxes are a non-issue for most. Also recall that this money is being spent on helping yours and others' health.
"Doctors that work in these systems are underpayed, and are therefore not motivated to do well in their work."
The average healthcare worker's income is indeed hampered by socialised medicine, however their pay is far from inadequate. Also, there is nothing stoppping the prospective doctor, nurse or whathaveyou from engaging in trade elsewhere. Remember that I do not speak for the entirety of the system, and I understand that the discrepancies that you've outlined are credible and may in fact be bigger issues than I myself have noticed. Also, I cannot speak for other regions of Canada or the world when I claim that the healthcare system here works without any major flaws.
I'd rather wait for a bit than have to fork out a shit load of money if I have a nasty accident.
I'm fine with my health care.
Ofcourse you've had to pay. How else do you think it's funded? Tax payers.
I mean free as in you don't dole cash out to the hospital kinda free. You gotta pay taxes for everything, so why not pay for something that is actually damn useful, like health care. If anyone seriously thinks its a bad idea to help give EVERYONE in a fucking country free health care, I'm scared about that nations selfish way of thinking.
Healthcare sucks. Just save our lives for free.
Ya.
I'd rather wait for a bit than have to fork out a shit load of money if I have a nasty accident.
I agree, what kind of person really puts money as a bigger priority than saving lives. Oh, you can't pay for this $150,000 life saving surgery? Well just go die slowly then :downs: [editline]09:18AM[/editline] Shit what was that movie where the dude takes a hospital hostage to get his son a heart surgery? found it, John Q. No problem with the Australian system at all. I expect all the American users to come online in a few hours and start telling us how wrong we are
Seems like nationalized healthcare systems share almost all the same issues that America's private healthcare system suffers from. In general, it seems as though you guys have competent modern healthcare systems.
Mighty Canadian healthcare rocks!
If you ask me Australia has one of the best healthcare systems on the planet, and it's public. Sure, we have to pay tax for it, but I know that I can walk into any hospital in the nation and get all the care I need and no one will refuse to help me because I don't have insurance.

I do feel that the Canadian system is inferior to the NHS, but much of the comments made in the U.S. about the state of our system are overblown and attempt to make it sound much worse than it really is. The system isn't perfect, but I do prefer it to private health care.
