Okay so I've decided I want a whole new computer, I paid £1000 for my current computer 3 or 4 years ago, it's served me well but it's past the golden period of being able to run all my games at full graphics. It's time for my new machine that will suffice for the next 3 or 4 years to be built, so I'm prepared to put some serious money into it. The problem is, since I got my last PC I can't say I've been keeping in touch with hardware, so I have no idea what's good anymore.
So this is where I need help. I basically need you all to help me decide on almost every part that's going in my PC, with some criteria:
No need for a case or monitor, got those already,
Operating system is not included in the budget (but I still need some help on that, I'll come back to it)
I'd have to say I prefer the Intel/Nvidia side of things to the AMD/ATI side. I'm not sure why.
I'm also wondering about SLI, whether it's better value to get a couple of older cards or one really new one.
And about the operating system, it'll be Windows 7, I'm thinking about getting 64 bit, so I can use more RAM, but I'm worried about compatability problems, most games nowadays support 64 bit don't they?
Must have at least 1 1TB hard drive, I don't care much about solid state drives.
Last but not least I'd like to apologise for being a complete and utter PC building retard, and I greatly appreciate any help. I don't think I've broken any rules with this thread but I'm sorry if I have.
Hmm, where is your location?
And do you have a website we could use that ships to your area so we don't go and put a build together for you when the parts aren't even able to pe sent to you?
Oh erm, I reside in London, England.
www.Scan.co.uk will do nicely
Thanks. Don't get dual old graphics cards, btw.
I doubt he means old cards.
I think he probably means more like CF'ing 4890s or 5770s instead of buying a 5850 or something
Actually, this website scares me, they have bullshit hardware..
Anyother sites?
Scan is somewhat expensive sometimes i find there are many many sites some better then others in certain sections.
Overclockers.co.uk
ebuyer.co.uk
amazon.co.uk (can still be good)
of coarse ebay.
overclockers probably being the best.
Ummm don't listen to itsDivine. He's new here, scan is a great website. Overclockers ISN'T the best. Scan eBuyer and novatech.
I'll get something good for you

From hanging around this section a bit I got the impression people didn't really like overclockers, and that scan was good.
and thanks derlicious.
You can't SLI two 4890, just for the record...
I can understand that you would like a Intel chip in a 1000£ budet, but I would still recommend a Phenom II x4/5850 build. The i5 750 is a very good CPU too, so that would be my other choice.

Dude the build i made is better than having a Phenom II X4/5850.
Just remember £900 is about $1400. I made it only £900. A Phenom II X4 5850 which doesn't perform as good as the build i made would have cost less.
It's a pretty big boost
and it only costs <£60 more
You edited after I answered so I didn't see your build... And yeah, you're right it's a good bit more.
Okay this is excellent, thanks. Gonna get the build you posted derlicious.
Ahaha, what the hell
[editline]04:47PM[/editline]
I hope you didn't ordered his build, because it seems to be really bad.
[editline]04:47PM[/editline]
I mean, especially the graphic card.
[editline]04:48PM[/editline]
The rest is okay, though.
The GTX 470 is a great card, especially in DX11...
Though the 5870 is a fraction better...
And 60$ cheaper.
Yup, but not the gtx 480 which is a piece of garbage.
Which isn't on the list.
Yup, but not the gtx 480 which is a piece of garbage.
Urm no it isn't fanboy? It performs far better than a 5870 and only costs like £50 more.
Shut the fuck up

Oh cool, it also runs hotter and louder, uses more power, and the hardware design is shitty.
So if you are so on Nvidia branch, use GTX 470, but not 480. The 5870 is also a better alternative.
You are an idiot who care only about performance, and you know it.
[editline]10:14PM[/editline]
Which isn't on the list.
Explain me this, then:

Why the gtx 480 is here, well?
WUT?!?! I opened that link twice and I read 470 both times!
:psyduck: How?
Put me in a boxfort, or give me a explanation.

That made me laugh so hard.
ISN'T THAT THE FUCKING POINT
Oh lets start buying shitty cards instead of cards which are better because i don't want to be one of those 'fags' that buys really good cards!
the hardware design is shitty
How is it shitty?

Calling the gtx 470 and HD 5870 "shitty cards" is a bit pretentious, isn't it?
And no, the gtx 480 is not a good card for your information. Sorry to dissapoint you, dear novice who knows performance by Youtube videos.
How is it shitty?
Because ADT is a fucking retard and doesn't know shit
How is it shitty?
Everything I said above, and the price which doesn't appeal at all customers.

Stop making stupid, unfounded comments without explaining them

Also if the OP has a decent case the problems of heat and noise are negated
