The history, culture, and general fighting philosophies of each are explained. The explanations are accompanied by segments showing actors performing dramatized scenes that are meant to depict the daily lives of the actual fighters. Two teams of guests (introduced as experts on the warriors) are brought onto the show to test weapons spotlighted as being used by each of the warriors. Typically, the different weapons are organized into four categories: close range, mid range, long range, and special weapons. However, some episodes (for instance, "Yakuza vs Mafia") have had as many as five categories. Matt Anderson and Sonny Puzikas, the experts for the "Green Beret vs. Spetsnaz" episode, have suggested that the teams are assigned weapons by the producers and that they have little influence in the production of the acted simulations. The teams test the assigned weapons on human-shaped, ballistics gel targets. Sometimes, torso-shaped targets are covered with armor that is representative of what would be worn by the weapon's opponent. While the damage inflicted on the armor by the weapon is factored into the weapon's effectiveness, the defensive ability of armor isn't included as a separate category on the show. Natural tissue, particularly pig carcasses and cow bones, are also frequently used as targets. All of the weapon tests are recorded with high speed photography, and the results are fed into a computer that measures the damage each weapon is capable of inflicting. The winner of each weapon category is determined by a combination of the test results and the judgment of the producers and hosts. In instances when the results of the tests are close, the panel decides which weapon has won based on their personal opinions. However even if a weapon is given the advantage, it doesn't necessarily mean it will win out in the simulation. The data collected from the weapons tests is fed into a computer simulation based on an unreleased commercial game engine developed by Slitherine Strategies to determine the average winner of one thousand battles. These results are then used to create a fictional battle reenactment (between two characters or two small groups) performed by actors; the winner of the battle being determined using the collected data. After the battle dramatization has ended, the number of killing blows dealt by each weapon during the computer simulations is revealed. Episodes conclude with the hosts and guests commenting on why they agree or disagree with the outcome of the match.

After three episodes, Deadliest Warrior averaged 1.7 million viewers. On July 7, 2009, the program (specifically the "IRA vs. Taliban" episode) was ridiculed during the first episode of You Have Been Watching, a British television review and panel game hosted by critic Charlie Brooker. The show was featured on You Have Been Watching, before its premiere in the UK on August 11, 2009, on Bravo. Bravo only aired eight episodes in the UK, with "IRA vs Taliban" omitted. After the third week of the show, a web series on Spike.com was created: Deadliest Warrior – The Aftermath. Produced in a roundtable format, and hosted by Kieron Elliot (a member of the William Wallace team featured in the "William Wallace vs Shaka Zulu" episode), it serves as a liaison between those watching the show and its producers. During The Aftermath, the producers focus on a specific match-up, and debate the issues pertaining to the episode raised by viewers in internet forums. It was created to answer questions from viewers, address its perceived inconsistencies, and provide a commentary from contributors.
Episodes (Courtesy of Spike.com) William Wallace vs. Shaka Zulu Shaolin Monk vs. Maori Warrior Green Beret vs. Spetsnaz Mafia vs. Yakuza Apache vs. Gladiator IRA vs. Taliban Pirate vs. Knight Spartan vs. Ninja Viking vs Samurai http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1281313/ http://www.spike.com/show/31082 Also, an arcade game is coming soon! http://www.spike.com/video/deadliest-warrior/3378793
This show is fucking retarded :argh: Let's compare an RPG7 to a flamethrower. :downs: I would like to get some of those ballistic gel dummies they have with the bones, organs and blood, they would be extremely fun to shoot.
Who the fuck cares, they fuck shit up.
I love to watch the show for the hell of it. I'm not sure how much to the letter I would take the results though. But it's fun to watch as a sort of semi-educational gladitorial wrestling match. I look forward to the new episodes in the coming weeks.
I would love to have that game engine on my computer.
I'm still waiting for Pirate vs. Ninja.
dumb show, most 'experts' in that show are massive fanboys, I mean look at the fucking Samurai dude. he painted Samurai has katana-wielding gods while the thread from theprofessional already murdered the concept of Katana being the greatest weapon, having the best armor, and etc.
Of course the show is biased. It's still entertaining.
I want their gel dummies that they have, it would be awesome to beat the fuck out of them and watch all of the blood and brains come out.
new episode Cade Courtley vs Bear Gyrlls who is the better survivor [editline]04:24AM[/editline] lol at Rashad breaking a skull with his elbows and knees where was that shit when he was just hugging and laying on thiago?

I want to see Churchill and Eisenhower duke it out.
I want to see Churchill and Eisenhower duke it out.
Eisenhower would lay a beating on Churchy's fat ass.
Occasional historical inaccuracies aside, I like this show. I loved reading the Youtube comments on the Spetznaz vs. Green Berets video where the Spetznaz beat the shit out of the Green Berets. Almost all of them were from butthurt Americans exclaiming how this never could've happened for various reasons, ranging from they'd never meet up to the Spetznaz had no technology and were weak. I'd like to see SAS vs. Delta Force next.
Despite how stupid some of the comparisons are this show is completely awesome.
No, the show is retarded, there is no scientific process involved, and the Spetznaz vs Green Beret episode is an example of that.
You are proving Gmod_Fan77's point. Butthurt Americans + Eurasian Russians beating American ass = Shitstorm inbound!
This show would be so much better if the tests were fair! They should use the same targets each time instead of a gel torso for one weapon, and a rubber ball for the one it's supposed to be compared to! And half the time they think 'wow this 50 cal exploded his chest it's much better than this 9mm' when damage isn't always everything. I'm british and i agree with him. The show isn't fair. At the end of the day though, it's entertainment. It would probably be unwatchable if they actually tried to be 100% scientific.
Grown men fight over whose favourite action figure is cooler like 5 year olds at a sandbox. Hilarity ensues.

It's fucking stupid, on the IRA versus Taliban, they decided that the IRA used flamethrowers and the Taliban would use RPGs, fair enough for the Taliban, but the IRA used RPGs as well. The IRA handed in 7 flamethrowers at the weapons decommission in 2005, and 20 RPGs. The show also depicted them with M16s, but the IRA used a variety of rifles, including the AK-47, but they couldn't use them in the show because the Taliban were using them. And a slingshot? What the fuck?
The episode with the polynesian tattooed maniac is hilarious. "KAMMAATE KAUUUUURA"
Y'know, they only included the "educational" aspect of the show so it would pass off as a documentary. It's the best way that they could justify pitting 2 random fighters against each other. Also, Yakuza vs Mafia is an awesome episode. I'm slightly annoyed by the fact that the IRA vs Taliban episode was banned in the UK.

The Spetsnaz are proven to be superior in training to the Green Berets 2. I didn't see any inaccuracies in it, other than the fact the Spetsnaz tried to hip-fire without being in cover.
I still think Yakuza would win with their ninja skillz
1. The Spetsnaz are proven to be superior in training to the Green Berets 2. It's just randomization and numbers against numbers.

Protip: Spetznaz don't actually perform backflipping hatchet attacks. $10 says their training and skillsets look almost identical to, oh , every other country's special forces. 2. There are a million inaccuracies, I'm not even going to begin listing them.
I've always assumed that they test all the weapons more extensively then they show on the actual show. But to be honest i really don't care who wins in the end as long as i get to see gel torso's getting the shit beaten out of them and the occasional bad ass moment like the pirate vs knight finishing move.
1. The Spetsnaz are proven to be superior in training to the Green Berets 2. Granted, Afghans had support of the US. But they were still just ragged insurgents. the difference between Green Beret and Spetsnaz , is that uh, Green Beret has been doing shit for a while now, and still do, probably at the current operation Moshtarak. Spetsnaz has been sitting their asses down for the last years doing noting if you don't count South Ossetia, but that war was so quick, it doesn't even matter. I'm not being patriotic or whatever, but I'd rather hand on veteran experience over a rigid ruthless training.
