Six shots. Five dead. One heartland city thrown into a state of terror. But within hours the cops have it solved: a slam-dunk case. Except for one thing. The accused man says: You got the wrong guy. Then he says: Get Reacher for me. And sure enough, ex-military investigator Jack Reacher is coming. He knows this shooter-a trained military sniper who never should have missed a shot. Reacher is certain something is not right-and soon the slam-dunk case explodes. Now Reacher is teamed with a beautiful young defense lawyer, moving closer to the unseen enemy who is pulling the strings. Reacher knows that no two opponents are created equal. This one has come to the heartland from his own kind of hell. And Reacher knows that the only way to take him down is to match his ruthlessness and cunning-and then beat him shot for shot.
Well, owning the first ten books in the series I can safely say this isn't the same Reacher. Funnily enough when I read One Shot, (the book this is from), I couldn't help but think this is the film that would definitely work as a typical action film as well as starring Tom Cruise. One Shot is the ninth in the series, and there's a theme of Reacher getting on in age, getting rusty. You can say the same of Tom Cruise, so I am glad he was chosen for this role.
Plus judging from the second trailer, they completely removed two critical plot elements from the book. The sniper's [sp]sister was kidnapped, not the lawyer[/sp], and Reacher came into town [sp]with the intention of seeing to it that the sniper was put in jail, not that he was framed[/sp]
Another thing, right off the bat man, "he only cares about what's right". Reacher doesn't even give a shit about that, he only cares about seeing the big smug villain getting a taste of his own.
My dad has read a bunch of Jack Reacher books and is really annoyed about this movie. He doesn't like Cruise because he's just doesn't fit the look or demeanor of the character at all.
Maybe if Tom Cruise was six inches taller
