This is a recent issue and a minor inconvenience. Recently whenever I have left my computer for a short time, upon my return it is very slow for a few seconds and then gets back to normal speed. This happens regardless of what I have open at the time. It should be noted that I do have a fair number of "passive" applications open at all times (Discord, Foobar2k, Rainmeter, T-clock, YakYak, Steam, etc.).

Are these applications installed on the hard drive or SSD, it takes a while for a hard drive to spin up, you can disable the power down in the advanced power management settings.

I have pretty much nothing on the ssd, I've had spotty results from it in the past for games, but maybe it would be better to put the "passive" elements on the ssd? I'll check out these settings and see if they help.

I'd suggest putting the majority of your software on SSD to take advantage of the quicker load time, you can set steam to use your existing steam library on the HDD.
