A two-year-old girl watched as her grandfather was run over by a taxi in western Sydney, according to family members.
John Brown died at the scene after suffering serious head injuries in Small Street, Marayong just after 5pm yesterday.
The 49-year-old allegedly got into a fight with the taxi driver after he did not have enough money to pay his fare.
According to family, the driver allegedly took Mr Brown's laptop and tried to drive away, prompting him to grab onto the car door.
Mr Brown was then hit by the vehicle after losing his grip on the door.
Mr Brown's daughter-in-law Brooke Thompson-Slade told Nine News she witnessed the incident while standing at the front of her house with her two-year-old daughter.
"He didn't even brake at the intersection he went straight through it, he was seeing it in his rearview mirror, he ran straight over his head," Ms Thompson-Slade said.
"My two-year-old daughter was screaming on the front lawn so I ran and grabbed her because I didn’t want her to see any more."
Ms Thompson-Slade said her partner, Mr Brown's son, came out of the house just moments later.
"He came out and saw his father in a pool of blood," she said.
"What kid deserves to see his father like that as a last memory?"
A male taxi driver was questioned by police after he went to Blacktown police station last night and officers are now investigating the incident.
Bad judgement on both sides. Too bad it had to end like that.
According to family, the driver allegedly took Mr Brown's laptop and tried to drive away, prompting him to grab onto the car door.
Since when is it legal for a taxi driver to forcefully take possessions as he sees fit to compensate for a lack of fare? The laptop itself probably costs more than an entire weeks worth of that taxi man's salary and then there's the data on it too.

No sense of humor
Jeez, I'm gonna feel really sorry for that kid.

Hope the taxi driver gets what is coming to him, I feel bad for the kid.
The Taxi Driver should of simply called the police. It is in no way legal for him to take possessions in return for the cab fare. That got way out of hand. I wouldn't necessarily say murder (unless he could see he was about to run over the guy), but the guy should definitely get charged with man slaughter at least.
this made me feel bad for not talking to my grandpa much anymore
Well that sucks.
Taxi drivers are always assholes, at least in Denver. They drive awfully, they're rude, purposefully take "scenic" routes for extra fares, and break at least 20 traffic laws every minute.

All of my grand parents are dead so I don't especially feel bad about not talking to them.
I hope she'll recover after seeing something as awful as that... Gosh.

I'm going to Queensland this December to meet with some family, maybe I can make some time to head to West Sydney and give this chav a piece of my bloody mind.
that's so stupid he could have just asked his family and brought the money a few minutes later??? I don't get it

It seems to be some thing with taxi drivers in Australia at least. I've seen a few news reports about taxi drivers doing shit like that to compensate for people who don't pay. I remember in one story a taxi driver raided this guy's fridge because he was too drunk to pay.
