I'm planning to get Windows 7 64-bit soon, but I still need to know how to correctly upgrade from XP.
I know about the Custom Install thing, the Windows.old folder, and backing up your data. But the cnet video says you need to have two External Hard Drives, when I only have one.
The 2nd is for imaging your drive. Is this really necessary? Or can I just do like I have before with reinstalling Windows XP by backing up what I can to my external drive?
This is the video in question: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om1V_fkHFiM
No c|Net is stupid. I've done the custom install / windows.old with only one HDD (the one I was installing it on).
It'll work with one HDD assuming you don't have it 99% full or something stupid.
Just be sure NOT to format before installation.
