So recently I've been having HORRIBLE lag spikes in every single Source game I own. In fact it even happens in Borderlands sometimes. It's been getting progressively worse and today it's really unplayable. Lag spikes where my ping jumps to about 600 every ten seconds or so. Now here's the kicker. It only does it when I'm in-game. When out of game I'll ping google and get a steady stream of 30s. I don't get it. I'm on a wireless connection but there's no interference whatsoever and I've got nearly full bars. The router is in the room beside me.
Like I said it's been getting worse and I don't understand. Any ideas?
Tried restarting the router?

Yes. No luck. :/
Try running PingPlotter and run it for a few minutes. Give us a screenshot of what it shows (make sure to censor out the DNS names and IPs except for the destination server), and make sure to set it so that it displays all samples.
I had an issue like that when I used to use wireless ages ago, in the end this: http://www.martin-majowski.de/wlanoptimizer/ solved the problem for me

Today it was the worst it has been. Was out of town for a few days and tried to play No More Room in Hell today. Horrible. Lagged every 5 seconds on a server that has an average ping of 30-40 for me.
Whited out the IPs and DNS. This was the said NMRiH server.

Edit: It seems fine here on the graph, yet once I actually get in-game and try to play, it starts acting up.

Here's another example. I got into a server and minimized the game. These are the results while the game is playing. It's fine when outside of a game.
Did you try the program mentioned above? (http://www.martin-majowski.de/wlanoptimizer/). I used this program too for a problem very similar to this

Yeah, doesn't seem to do anything. I'm thinking it might be a overheating issue. I moved the laptop fan so that it blows away the heat on the sidefan and it works now. Minimal lag. Also had a box fan blowing on it on low. Helps a lot.
At least this laptop is temporary. Thanks for the help guys!
