The project is currently invite-only, and Google says it is only seeking “trusted testers.” Google says its goal is to defend free expression online. The company is inviting webmasters serving independent news, human rights, and elections-related content to apply to join by filling out a form on its site. If you meet the criteria, you’ll need to provide an email address, your website URL, the average queries you receive per second, and the type of content you host on your site. You can also add optional comments to plead your case for being considered.
They also launched a live map of current DDoS attacks
The low orbit ion cannons won't penetrate these shields... It looks like people will have to use geosynchronous howitzers now.
A competitor to CloudFlare, perhaps?
Google's version of CloudFlare, dunno what to think but hey its another one to the pool of these services.
Is this a Free Service?
Is this a Free Service?
At the moment yes but you need to be accepted in. I expect it to work like Cloudflare and its competitors when it goes public. Free service with main protection then premium which has everything.
That live map is pretty impressive.
The low orbit ion cannons won't penetrate these shields... It looks like people will have to use geosynchronous howitzers now.
Time to invest in Rods from God
the map is confusing as fuck but it looks cool.
Facepunch should try to join. Our opinions should never be silenced.
Good, DDoSing is like the most scummy thing on the planet and it's especially shit because like they said the smallest sites are most vulnerable
Facepunch should try to join. Our opinions should never be silenced.
It does in a way make sense that the webforum for both a popular sandbox game and.....rust......should participate. We get attacked enough as it is from butthurt players being permabanned for cheating.
Google are also helping with another thing called uProxy, it allows you to proxy through your own secure connection (or someone elses you trust) http://www.engadget.com/2013/10/21/google-ideas-uproxy/
That live map is pretty impressive.
it looks kind of like a painted target for an alien nuclear strike on america (obviously looks better animated)
Holy hell 18 gbps
18gbps isnt really that much in a ddos [editline]22nd October 2013[/editline] Esp. compared to http://blog.cloudflare.com/the-ddos-that-almost-broke-the-internet
Jesus Christ that image album on the live map page: Someone was pissed at America on the 8th of August.
Poor US and it's DDoS Tornadicane.
snip :x
Really cool, I bet google is going to be making a nice database of all the attacks, the IP locations; everything. It'll be like project honeypot.
Sounds pretty cool.
Why does everyone hate the US :( we're only DDoSing one country and that's China. No one likes China.
Why does everyone hate the US :( we're only DDoSing one country and that's China. No one likes China.
Because they wrecked my killstreak.
That map would look great in a big screen in a control room. how about a game of Global DDOS War
