Lewis Hamilton clinched his second drivers' world championship with a comfortable victory in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Hamilton, who qualified second to Mercedes team-mate and title rival Nico Rosberg, took the lead at the start and controlled the race thereafter.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/30168481 2014 season has been great, feel bad for rosberg though for not being able to fight properly in this race
feel bad for rosberg though for not being able to fight properly in this race
Hamilton had a great start to the race, but there was little fight for the win in the end.
The F1 site gave me the Abu Dhabi race time instead of converted to local time. So I started the stream just as they were interviewing Hamilton after his win. Welp. Not a massive F1 fan just yet, only watched a few races but kinda sucks to miss the biggest race.

Lewis is one great driver, he deserves it
I'm pretty shocked that Vettel went entirely winless this season after having four consecutive championships and 13 freaking wins last season alone.
I'm pretty shocked that Vettel went entirely winless this season after having four consecutive championships and 13 freaking wins last season alone.
I don't know what happened to him, I think his car just isn't up to snuff with what Mercedes put out this Year. even teams like Sauber are doing better than Red Bull.
I'm pretty shocked that Vettel went entirely winless this season after having four consecutive championships and 13 freaking wins last season alone.
F1 is like that though, last years car can go from the best to the worst within a week. Mercedes actually had a beast of a car for the past 2 seasons but they were also unreliable as fuck, they still had issues throughout this season too but it was a marked improvement. Also they had better drivers this time too. It's a shame Ross had engine troubles but well done hamilton, a great driver.
mercedes had a choice car the previous years when it came to statistics, but it burnt up its tyres so fast it didnt matter renault powered cars were seriously down on power compared to this years mercedes unit at the start of the year which gradually got better
Hoping next year will be a little more competitive for the front runners, still a great season though.
Rosberg has annoyed me all season. Hamilton had more wins, but was really unlucky on some occasions. Like Monaco.
Like Monaco.
His qualification in Monaco was very questionable.
I hope he wins Sports Personality Of The Year now, can't really think of anyone else who deserves it more.
I hope he wins Sports Personality Of The Year now, can't really think of anyone else who deserves it more.
england have literally done nothing worth noting this year anyway
I don't know what happened to him, I think his car just isn't up to snuff with what Mercedes put out this Year. even teams like Sauber are doing better than Red Bull.
Did we watch the same season, all I can remember of Sauber was how they managed to score absolutely nothing all year long, and even got outdriven by Marussia, who missed the last four races of the year. Meanwhile, Red Bull was the only team to break the Mercedes win streak three times this year, with Daniel Ricciardo winning in Canada, Belgium and Hungary. That Vettel acquired Webber's luck doesn't mean that Red Bull was absolute shit all year long.
mercedes basically poured 100% of their r&d resources into the 2014 season. the engine rules n stuff were outlined back in like 2012 so it seems mercedes just decided to fuck any attempt to compete in 2013 in order to have basically double the work done in preparation for 2014 - and it has paid off with all the mistakes learnt by other teams this year, 2015 is probably going to be a lot closer
I'm pretty shocked that Vettel went entirely winless this season after having four consecutive championships and 13 freaking wins last season alone.
Hate to say it but it is almost like the car is what did the winning for all those years.. Even with other drivers who won due to the car they have been able to win with a bad car. He had faith that they would be able to get a decent car together for the new rules and it has clearly paid off.
Sweeeeeet. I'm glad to see it was anyone but Vettel(I hate that little shit), but Hammy? Mmm. Good win, man. Good win. Let's hope next year the FIA tells the hippies to fuck off and let you drive a car with proper performance.
Hamilton had a great start to the race, but there was little fight for the win in the end.
To be fair there hasn't really been much of a fight for the win in Formula 1 in the past few years. We really need to get away from this yuppie fuel flow limit bullshit and these TERRIBLE Pirelli tires, let the drivers race for the win instead of the pit crews. Lose the hybrid system, lose the fuel flow regulator, lose the Pirelli tires, bring back refueling, toss the drivers a championship point every time they take a position, and I think we'll see people fighting for positions on track again. F1's supposed to be about the fastest cars technology can produce, not the most tree hugger approved cars technology can produce. If you want green racing go to Le Mans.
Man watching the last round was like watching one of Senna's races

The teams aren't going to self-regulate themselves for driver safety if it means they would concede track positions to other teams that throw everything into making the fastest car possible, they all want to win the championship. And tbh if you're going to make claims that F1 cars don't have 'proper performance', you really shouldn't be commenting on things like this because it obviously goes to show that you have very little understanding of F1.

We should be using 1,000HP engines. We shouldn't be using these shitty pirelli tires that degrade so fast the drivers don't want to push on them lest they spend too many times in the pits and use up the pittance that they're allowed by the FIA. I want to see racing. Right now what we see is 95% pit strategy. Oh, and you needn't mention safety. The cars are plenty safe enough to support 1,000HP engines and the slower lap times those engines will produce.
another fine testecull post keep it up buddy
At least mine contributed to the discussion and was related to Formula 1. Yours is just spam.
Quite a few manufacturers, including Mercedes, say they would quit F1 if they moved away from technology which would be relevant to road cars i.e. the new engines.
All I have to say to them: "Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out." Formula 1 used to be about the best drivers in the world racing the fastest cars in the world around the most challenging tracks in the world. That Formula 1 died 20-odd years ago. The Formula 1 we have now is too concerned with being ~*green*~, which has had a massive detriment on the actual racing and the spirit of the series as a whole.
We're sitting here with 600HP engines
but what about the rest of the package? its funny you mention engine power but the laptimes compared to the previous V8s are barely different at all
I want to see racing. Right now what we see is 95% pit strategy.
you realise it was even worse with refueling right, you're NEVER getting rid of pit strategy. remember the one set of tyre per race rule about 10 years ago? it was terrible and trashed the following year
"Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out."
its not just mercedes that think that though? but i guess you would LOVE to see some low tier privateer team take their place and go bankrupt before the end of the season stop trying grandpa hybrid technology is here to stay and its glorious [editline]23rd November 2014[/editline] my only gripe with the new engines at the start of the season was the weird noise, but i dont even care anymore
All I have to say to them: "Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out."
with rumours of an audi team joining the sport in 2016 or so, it's obvious that progressive science is going to be a long-standing feature of motorsport for the future the only ass being hit by a door is your fossil conservative clarkson arse

What keeps races entertaining is keeping costs down for every team and regulation to ensure a level playing field, so that each team can field competitive cars and allow for closer races with the major differentiation between competitors being driver skill. Although cars like an Australian V8 Supercar are nowhere near as fast as an F1 car, the races are extremely tight and fun to watch. And besides, the V6 F1s are faster than the V8 F1s, and faster than even the 1,000hp+ turbo F1s of a few decades ago.
