It was because a bird dropped a piece of bread onto some outdoor equipment. The LHC's beam wasn't actually operational at the time, so the automatic fail-safe mechanism didn't need to kick in. Nonetheless the operation had to be shut down until the problem was found. No remarks on whether anyone tracked down the bird bomber and compensated it for the lost lunch.
http://gizmodo.com/5397970/large-hadron-collider-overheats-due-to-dropped-chunk-of-bread Ok, now the LHC can be brought down by a simple piece of bread. Who wants to name the next disaster this thing gets.
The idea the Higgs Boson is sabotaging itself from existing in the future seems more realistic every day.
It's clearly sabotage. We all know birds are fundamentalists who despise science. We must retaliate and send a message, lest the birds think they've won.
*Achoo!* I broke the Hadron Collider =[

I think we'd all prefer doing this (1:33)
ITT Peta
ITT Peta
why would peta care, they heated up the birds lunch for it
I think we'd all prefer doing this (1:33)
An awfully long video for 5 seconds of interest.
The idea the Higgs Boson is sabotaging itself from existing in the future seems more realistic every day.
It's pretty cool actually. A new error every time. Everything from bread to Al-Queda
The idea the Higgs Boson is sabotaging itself from existing in the future seems more realistic every day.
The birds are in on it now. Who's next? The bears? God help us.
Wait so youre saying that the Higgs can influences birds from a future that doesnt exist because the higgs is coming back in time to stop itself? :psyboom:
The first thing I thought of when I read the title was Gordon Frohman.
I'm betting the next crash will be due to someone jacking off into the particle streams.
The "Higgs preventing itself from happening" stuff and bird bread are bullshit. They just built a faulty piece of shit machine and are trying to blame all the problems somewhere else.
Uh, no. They built and incredibly powerful and sensitive machine. Except for the Higgs sabotage part. That is bullshit.
Uh, no. They built and incredibly powerful and sensitive machine. Except for the Higgs sabotage part. That is bullshit.
:smith:
So, if it is proven, that the Higgs can sabotage it's own existence like this, do we just keep trying to make it anyway, just for the hell of it?
The "Higgs preventing itself from happening" stuff and bird bread are bullshit. They just built a faulty piece of shit machine and are trying to blame all the problems somewhere else.
Something of this scale has never really been done before. They have structures similar to this but never at such a scale. They are just working out the bugs in the system. Something this large was bound to have problems. Doesn't mean it is a piece of shit.
Except for the Higgs sabotage part. That is bullshit.
But it's still a really cool concept.
So, if it is proven, that the Higgs can sabotage it's own existence like this, do we just keep trying to make it anyway, just for the hell of it?
Its unknown if that is the cause, and if the Higgs really is this dangerous then the Scientists themselves said they wouldnt be attempting to find it or "use" it.
Its unknown if that is the cause, and if the Higgs really is this dangerous then the Scientists themselves said they wouldnt be attempting to find it or "use" it.
Dangerous? What could possibly go wrong! Besides, since when has danger ever been an impediment to science?
Dangerous? What could possibly go wrong! Besides, since when has danger ever been an impediment to science?
Well if the Higgs Boson can come back in time from a future that doesnt (yet) exist and stop itself from existing, then obviously it must be something powerful enough to destroy the Earth/Universe. I think destroying the Earth and or Universe is a good enough reason not to fuck around with something.

[editline]08:15PM[/editline] Damn it my avatar! [editline]08:18PM[/editline] Much better.
i like how some people expected the LHC to work smoothly yes 26 km of the most modern scientific equipment what could possibly go wrong
I bet it was a fucking grackle I swear to god they swarm over where I live.

That guy is a badass. I want a bow.
lol :downs:
Maybe the Large Hadron Collider became sentient. :tinfoil:

No we just have to enlist Patrick Flanagan
Smashing two atoms together can lead to the destruction of the Universe or Earth, your kidding me.
Never said that, all I said was in response to the idea that "creating" the higgs could be devastating and to prevent this from happening the higgs that is "created" in the future comes back and damages what creates and in the process destroys itself. Who knows though, I kind of find that theory a tad of the excuse side so they dont get complained at for wasting money.
