A colony of Adelie penguins faces being wiped out after an iceberg the size of Rome became lodged in their bay.
An estimated 150,000 penguins of Cape Denison in Commonwealth Bay have been killed since the iceberg measuring 1,120 square miles - larger than Luxemberg - forced them to trek 70 miles for food.

The colony of 160,000 has shrunk to just 10,000 since 2011, according to research carried out by the Climate Change Research Centre at Australia’s University of New South Wales.

Scientists predict the colony will be gone in 20 years unless the sea ice breaks up or the giant iceberg, dubbed B09B, is dislodged.
God help these flightless bastards.
Rip in peace. Pour one out for my Lil penguin niggas
Lack of Ice is killing Polar Bears, and Ice is killing Penguins.
Nature are you drunk.

Drunk on CO2
Isn't this literally the plot of Happy Feet 2?
Could have atleast airdropped some food maybe.
Since 2011?
I feel like someone probably could have done something in five years...
We must sanction the iceberg and threaten to raise CO2 emissions.

We're talking 150,000 penguins here, that's not an easy number to feed.

Dump a cargo full of rotting fish from an airplane, creating a messy puddle as it lands on the rock that the penguins can then suck on.
To hell with ISIS! We have to prevent this!
My people, dying...
In all seriousness, this is awful :(
Can't Germany provide refuge for these migrants too?
Since 2011?

What are people supposed to do about an iceberg the size of Rome?
larger than Luxemberg
So it's larger than something that doesn't exist?
Couldn't we just drop some bunker buster-type bombs on it to crack it up for the sea to break down easier?
Couldn't we just drop some bunker buster-type bombs on it to crack it up for the sea to break down easier?
Anything with "bombs" and "nature" are never, ever going to end well.
I like how 160 thousand is a considered a colony. That's like a fuck ton of penguins. That's like a population of a small pacific island country. Like I keep looking away and thinking about it, but all I can think is, fuck that's a shit ton of fucking penguins.
Why interfere?

how are we going to move an iceberg the size of a small european tax-haven? thats the issue i guess
Why interfere?
we gotta help the penguin homies out.
what the fuck did they ever do to us?
It's at times like this that penguins turn to a life of crime.
Penguins are too adorable to die
obama get on that executive order pls
Can't we just move them off the island to a different island? Or is money more a thing
Can't we just move them off the island to a different island? Or is money more a thing
I'm not very familiar with animal logistics or what animal humane societies have to move animals, but moving 150,000 penguins might be out of human control. Plus I don't think there's much we can do since it's bad to mess with the natural order iirc(or is that just for filming animals?)

It sure lightens the load.
they did this to themselves
penguins have a weird and vulnerable setup because being by the ocean (their only source of food) is way too cold for their eggs so they walk for days to somewhere slightly warmer to mate and the males all huddle together for weeks keeping the babies warm and starving to death while the females go to the ocean and back for food, so they're very susceptible to changes to their environment :(
So 150,000 penguins have died from a forced march of 70 miles. They should name this iceberg after Andrew Jackson. Do they name large icebergs?

I was thinking holocausty jokes about it but yours is better
The horrible penguin holocause, being forced to waddle through the snow for miles, as one by one they all fall over and freeze...such an adorably sad thought
