I am putting together a new super-build with all new tech soon and I had a few questions for those 'in the know', or more specifically part related questions.
Here is the build:

(I already have a Core i5 2500k in hand)
1. Is that PSU sufficient for the double GTX 580 SLI I am setting up. I've never had an SLI setup before.
2. Has anyone used that Cooler Master V8? It looks cool but I am more concerned about efficiency.
3. That motherboard only has 2 6GB/s SATA ports. Would it be worth it to find another board with more? I intend to put the 3 drives in RAID 0
4. Does the SLI bridge come with the cards or do I need to buy it?
Samsung Spinpoint F3. And at that budget, I would go with an Enermax PSU or that alike. 750W is probably in the low end of what you would need for two (overclocked, I guess) GTX 580. It should be modular, too.
This seems really excessive, for just over $1k you can run Crysis on the highest settings at 1920x1080 with decent FPS. If you do insist on spending this much money:
1. You should probably get a slightly better PSU, this looks very good:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139011
and you can combo it with a 580
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.641809
or an F3 Spinpoint which I recommend over the Seagates
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.638785
2. The v8 looks okay, but this is one of the best coolers for the range
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=35-608-014
(Or this one)
3. You should probably get a better mobo, especially if you're going to run RAID 0 as its performance is limited by the slowest drive. This one is a very nice one, and you can combo it with the case you've already chosen.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128480
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.652063
4. The mobo I've linked comes with a SLI bridge, I think (but I'm not sure) that the one you've picked does as well.
You might want to look at the superclocked versions of the 580s EVGA makes, and I'm not sure how necessary 16GB RAM is, but if you really want it (this build is kinda excessive anyway) go for it.

Thank you for the tips. Informatives for you. I will modify my build with the combo deals.

There we go.

I don't think RAID works with SATA 6Gb/s, but maybe I'm just content for CIPWTTKT.
[editline].[/editline]
Oh yeah, drop 3/4 of the RAM. At least half of it anyway.
Get the Samsung F3's. Is 16GB really necessary?
Do you really think you will utilize 3 hard drives? Only get them if you think it's necessary. Either way, get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185 They are the best hard drives.
Also, i'm 99% sure you don't need 16GB of RAM. Get this:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231422
You save $150 with that RAM. Use that money to buy an SSD.
This is the best of the best CPU air cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608018

Now you only have one 580

Crap, you're right.

Why does everyone love the Spinpoint F3's?
Cheap, reliable, fast.
Anyway, maybe (if you aren't going to use 3TB space9 get an SSD.
Water cooling...
Instead of the V8 get a Muggen Rev 2
Normal hard disks don't 'need' sata 3, if your planning on running SSD's of Vertex 3 or alike then get more Sata 3 slots, but with those hdd you can use sata 2.
I don't plan on getting an SSD. I will run those 3 1 TB drives in RAID 0, so 1 TB of space will be perfect for me.
By having 3x1TB drives in raid 0 you get 3TB of storage.
Which RAID option has the really good read/write speeds?
RAID 0
the problem with it is that if one drive fails, it's as if all your drives failed
RAID 0

Exactly, by getting 3 drives in RAID 0 you are multiplying the chance of catastrophic data loss by 3. Get the one spinpoint, and invest in a nice ssd.
If you have warmed to the idea of 3 tb of space, don't RAID them, use NTFS hard links.

I am not concerned about data loss. I don't store any important files on my computer and if I do need something safe I use Google Docs / Picasa Web Albums.
I am not concerned about data loss. I don't store any important files on my computer and if I do need something safe I use Google Docs / Picasa Web Albums.
Then why do you need 3 TB? Surely it's something important.
And get an SSD. It speeds up boot time tremendously and it also speeds up just about everything else.

I do not want to get an SSD. It is way too expensive for me. I can get 120GB in an SSD at the same price as those hard drives. I need the space for games, FRAPS stuff, Media Center DVR, etc.
I have about 500GB now and I am always struggling for space.
So? Get a SSD for boot and programs. Then get 2 spinpoints. 2Tb is a fuckton.
It's really has choice, if he doesn't want a SSD he certainly doesn't have to get one. Besides, 3 drives in RAID 0 will be more than twice as fast as a single drive, and the F3 Spinpoint is already rather fast as it is.

Pretty sure based on my past statistics knowledge that the failure rate is higher than just being multiplied. But, perhaps I'm mistaken.
This.
You'd end up spending way more money this way
You'd end up spending way more money this way
Yet, his OS and programs and whatever would be safe from failure, while being just as fast. Or close to it. And still can Raid 0 the other 2 spinpoints.
[editline]18th May 2011[/editline]
I don't see a reason to not have a SSD in a high end build anyways.
Try splitting up the RAM so it's not a kit. Could drop some off the price.
Try splitting up the RAM so it's not a kit. Could drop some off the price.
what?
for 8GB RAM, $80 is the standard price (or maybe you just missed the updated build?)
what?

4x4GB kit = $230
4x4GB non-kit = $185

If you read the thread or my post you would've realized that he's no longer getting 16GB RAM, instead he's getting 8 and he is getting a very good price on it.

i love having my harddrives fail after only 2 years, thats why i always buy seagate.

get a western digitals or f3s unless you want to be replacing your harddrives frequently.

excellent. just wanted to make sure because losing two full 500gb hdds out of the blue is a pain in the ass.
