I had a dream one morning where I saw this beach from almost the same point of view as a girl younger than me. She had seekingly crawled from an old house and onto an oddly shaped terrace. As she looks up and sees the ocean and the strange land around her she stops her search and looks up.
I woke up and continued my day, unable to shake the picture off of me. It was so vivid, so realistic and eerily beautiful that by the end of the week I purchased a 70x100 cm canvas, and some acrylics. I then sat down in sketchup and reconstructed the scene, trying to find an angle that would capture all the important things. I didn't succeed entirely, but all in all I was satisfied with the result I got.

I thumbnailed it due to the size. Sorry folks.
So I wasn't entirely happy with this. It was a very very basic, very rough start. I did several sketches in my sketchbook before and after I did the sketchup image. I wanted to capture this mood of helplessness yet wonder. It wasn't easy I tell you.

So based on my sketches and the sketchup angle, I made a 1 to 100 draft on paper with the complete composition. At this point things were looking up!

I used some tape to tape some strings onto the painting indicating the rule of thirds and I sketched the thing out with pencil and charcoal - which later turned out to give a pretty awesome effect one the paint was applied on top.
I did not have a camera in the early stages of painting so I can only give you an update on where I am so far:

Don't mind the seemingly gray color on the wooden boards. - It's actually black, except 'behind' the glass frames.
So I am facing some major challenges here. The two main challenges are the shadows the sun will form and how the glass will be.
I hope you guys can help me with some C&C. I'll probably (hopefully) update weekly!
Looks very good so far.
Shadows have the opposite colour of the lightsource.
It could just be me, but her legs seem a teensy bit too long.
looks and sounds eerily similar to a dream that haunted me almost two years ago, I had set out to paint the setting and spent a week in a mad haze of scribbles and photoshop files.
Can't wait to see this finished up a bit more, it's intriguing.
