Annoying Gamer's rant was not the reason, but the straw that broke the camel's back. He receives an incredible amount of hate from Twitter, on his website, and all over the internet, and has done so for years. Some people can brush off/deal with the hate, others can't - and will often handle it very poorly. He's seemingly chosen to give up game development entirely in an attempt to weed that sort of poisonous hate out of his life.
A lot of people are celebrating this as if it's a good thing. It isn't. It's schoolyard-grade bullshit, from everyone.
