Garry's got a fun new nickname!
Doesn't seem like it's going to affect mods. Phew, that was my biggest worry.
One of my biggest gripes with TF2 was how long it took to load. Thank god they sorted it out.
Garry's got a fun new nickname!
Should be Garry "G(arrys)Mod" Newman if we follow recent trends.
Doesn't seem like it's going to affect mods. Phew, that was my biggest worry.
I, too, think that's a big problem, which I know hasn't been taken care of since the Mac update. Popular mods like Black Mesa don't deserve to be stuck on Source Engine 14, nor should Orange Box Singleplayer games be outdated. I've got comments here for things not taken care of. (Such as Mac support for Authoring Tools)
Doesn't seem like it's going to affect mods. Phew, that was my biggest worry.
It will affect mods unless they update the SDK. Mods can't mount other games right now.
Doesn't seem like it's going to affect mods. Phew, that was my biggest worry.
When my friend switched to steam pipe for CSS he said all his maps and skins were gone and he got pretty pissed so...
SteamPipe has also allowed for a new feature within Steam: the ability to set download rates.
Not connected to SteamPipe: plenty of games (ie Portal) are not on it and yet that feature got pushed out after it was in beta for a short bit
I do recognize the guy who delivers my Amazon stuff.
Doesn't seem like it's going to affect mods. Phew, that was my biggest worry.
Mods on Source 2007 have been broken since this change. It's broken all the tools too.
Huh, well that sucks. I thought Valve of all people would find some way for people to transfer/convert their mods.
Mods on Source 2007 have been broken since this change. It's broken all the tools too.
my source 2007 personal mod still works fine
my source 2007 personal mod still works fine
Does it mount HL2DM/CSS/DOD:S? Base content will work since that's still a GCF. A mod I work on that was mounting HL2DM and CSS would crash when mounting.
Mods on Source 2007 have been broken since this change. It's broken all the tools too.
Isn't the fix for the tools "coming soon" though?
Here's hoping Valve take this as an opportunity to update the SDK. Ha, sometimes I crack myself up.
Does it mount HL2DM/CSS/DOD:S? Base content will work since that's still a GCF. A mod I work on that was mounting HL2DM and CSS would crash when mounting.
Valve scares me so I just drop the full gcf content in the mod folder. That's why the mod is 50gb :v:
Does this mean I can now just copy the mp3's of the gamestartup songs from TF2 without extracting from the GFC first?
I'm worried about 3rd party data providers getting hacked and distributing malware. Are there any protections against this?
Is converting Gmod to SteamPipe on high priority now? Last time I recall Garry said he would start working on it once all the other games were converted.
Mods on Source 2007 have been broken since this change. It's broken all the tools too.
Yeah, at this point it's either wait for Valve to update the SDK or port whatever project to the Alien Swarm SDK.
Yeah, at this point it's either wait for Valve to update the SDK or port whatever project to the Alien Swarm SDK.
Indeed, let's hope they update it instead of thinking like EA:
"Our stuff is so complicated that modders won't even understand... On the bright side, they can't create anything with our things, we can even make the stupidest DLCs and everyone'll fall for it! Nyeh heh heh heh heh!"
The worst case is, if Valve's too lazy to update it.
Getting much much faster loading here, good job Valve. [editline]5th May 2013[/editline] On TF2
IDK if steampipe is supposed to do this but now I get constant 70-90 fps on tf2 and I used to get 40-50 before steampipe
Does this mean I can now just copy the mp3's of the gamestartup songs from TF2 without extracting from the GFC first?
You didn't need to extract from the GCFs pre-SteamPipe.
The joke in my comment up there was supposed to say: "EA doesn't give out their Development Kit, because they're scared that the community can make better content than EA"
The joke in my comment up there was supposed to say: "EA doesn't give out their Development Kit, because they're scared that the community can make better content than EA"
it's actually because of all the licensed software in their toolkit that they can't give away for free but you know
it's actually because of all the licensed software in their toolkit that they can't give away for free but you know
its not even that, even if they could they still wouldn't give it away
You’ll also notice that you’re able to browse the file structure of games downloaded via SteamPipe, rather than having them hidden away in .gcf files.
this is rad every time i want to dig through source games' files and shit, i am always too lazy to redownload gcfscape
I'm worried about 3rd party data providers getting hacked and distributing malware. Are there any protections against this?
I assume (knowing nothing about the actual way it functions) that each file is signed (or at least has a checksum it can verify), same with delta updates. Ideally, if you just replace any random file, the client would reject it and fallback to another content server.
