My girlfriend has an Acer Laptop. Her internet works fine at my house and her house, but however in her dorm she has a weak connection and she loses connection every 5 minutes. Her roommate's internet works just fine and I have even brought my laptop in there and it works fine. At first I thought it might be because its a public network, so I added the connection to the windows firewall exception list(that didnt work), I then just turned her firewall off completely(didnt work), I then reinstalled the wireless card drivers(still didnt work). Should I get her a new wireless card?

Anyone?
The connection, can also depend where you are.
For example my bro get little to no connection in his room but I get a better connection because i'm a few meters closer than him to the router.
If it works fine in other places I really doing think their is any problem with the hardware and software.
You could always try (Assuming that your girlfriend has administrative rights) changing the broadcasting signal to "G only", broadcasting multiple signal degrades the overall signal.
Its not just the connection.. it can be in relation to older, or aging hardware. Also, don't forget most of these WLAN cards aren't soldered on. There is normally two connectors going from the WLAN to the direction of the screen (The antenna is around the screen, cleaver huh?). But thats always dependant on your laptop manufacturer.
I would find where the WLAN card is (Under the keyboard, or behind the service plate). Re-seat it, and reattach the antenna wires.
Is your girlfriends laptop wireless G or N? If hers is G, and the router is wireless N, then she's not going to get any signal outside of wireless G range.
cdlink-the wireless is N im sure since there is only one router for her whole side of the dorm.
Simmons-wow...yea didnt think that the connectors couldve came loose, ill check that next time im over there.
Jimtools- I thought of that after i made this posting and she isnt no hwere near the router so that would make the connection worse because I think she is out of the G range like cdlink said.
luke- her roommate gets internet just fine. she gets a weak connection but it doesnt drop the internet every 5 seconds
