So i was having breakfast and as usual my pc is suspended so i can quickly return to read some news, i start it up, but it takes its time to regain consciousness, so i give it a reset, and no post just one long beep and a couple of short ones. i shut down, on the power supply button, give it a couple of seconds, start up again, but nothing, the power button on the front isn't responding, all cables seem to be set in properly, i even removed a ram module that has a worn out pin, still no response. I still haven't tried clearing the cmos from the jumper had no time i'm at school atm. What do you guys reckon? EDIT: Powersupply seems to be working OK since the motherboard light is on and as soon as i power the pc on the cable my keyboard and mouse lights up for a second as per usual, only the power button doesn't restart SO what i'm going to try: - Clear the RTC RAM in CMOS - Reseat everything - Maybe try to start without the graphics card or other stuff Specs: CPU: C2D E8400 (working at 4.0GHz daily, 445x9.0 i think) EDIT: It's stable RAM: Buffalo(i think) 1x2GB DDR2-800 Could be source of problem i think GPU: MSI R7850 1GB MB: Asus P5K (the god of 775 imo) HDD: WD, i think, 80GB. pretty old, from like 2006 i think. Please let me know your thoughts, as i'm planning on selling the pc. Well if it doesn't work anymore despite my efforts i guess i won't be selling it. maybe some parts. Anyways thanks for reading this EDIT: I'm on Windows 8, but this isn't a software issue so it's pretty much irrelevant
The beeps tell you what's wrong with your PC. Have a look here http://support.asus.com/Troubleshooting/detail.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&m=P5K%20SE&s=22&hashedid=I2f2e2yHI0XF2Vf9&os=&no=978
I fixed it now, but it was weird, because i had removed all dimms but the power button wouldnt even give signs of life. I dissassembled everything, cleaned out the dust, took out the battery and switched the CLRTC jumper, now it's botting up fine, although if i try to re-apply the overclock it won't work, i'm thinking the memory module is more damaged than i thought, even though it's just one of the pins on the gold comb. Thanks anyway, problem solved!
