Nine-year-old Isaac Saldana of Tucson, Ariz., was so upset when he heard about the shootings in his hometown that he felt compelled to do something in response.
"Me and my brother were about to go walk the dog when we saw them saying on TV that a little girl and Gabrielle Giffords got shot," he told HuffPost. "I just thought, whoa! I didn't know that people carry around guns here in Tucson. It scared me a little."
Saldana said he decided the best way to help would be to gather some of his toys from home, as well as a bracelet his father had brought him after one his deployments as a U.S. Marine, and sell them at school to raise money for Giffords.
"I felt really bad about Gabrielle being in the hospital and getting shot, so I just wanted to help her," he said.
After raising a total of $2.85, Saldana put the money into an envelope with a get-well card and mailed it to Giffords' hospital room. His mother, Aracely Saldana, said she had no idea what he was up to.
"I didn't even know what was going on," she told HuffPost. "I received an email from his teacher saying she just wanted to give me a heads-up that she caught him in class selling toys, so she took his backpack away later that day. I asked him what was going on and he told me the reason he was doing it was that he was trying to raise money to send to Gabrielle."
Aracely Saldana, 30, said that when she learned her son had raised the money and mailed it to Giffords without her knowing, she was so touched that she teared up.
Thanks kid, I was having a perfectly fine day before you turned me into a blubbering idiot.
I bet that nine year old kid is doing more to help than any adult is.
Aww. That's really nice of him.

bitch
I heard about this kid. Even though it's only a measly $2.85, it helps. Though, I would think that Giffords would be able to sustain herself finacially, as I've never heard of a poor politician :v:. Not saying she doesn't deserve money or anything though.
Gives me hope. :unsmith:
This kid deserves the world's biggest heart.
even though it's only $2.85, that kid is bad ass. $2.85 is a lot to a kid.

It's more of the thought that counts. :unsmith:

teacher needs to get out

The teacher is Loughner's mother.
Doesn't this kid realized that congressmen get free healthcare?

He's selling goods without a license or permission, that's illegal.
Giffords is rich as fuck. Just saying.

This too.
The teacher was right take it away from him, schools don't allow kids to just sell things in class. She didn't know why he was selling them either, so I don't see why everyone is demonizing her.
I teared up a little.

Yeah and the kid may not have even known what he was doing and could have regretted it later, causing a tantrum.
In 2009 her net worth was estimated to be $351035 to $1265000.
She'll be fine (financially).
Raise money for worthwhile causes, silly little kid.
When my partner was younger, she bought toys to send to Yugoslavia because (it was during the breakup of the region) she didn't think they would have Christmas.
To people that keep saying she's fine financially, we know. You're obviously missing the point. This child doesn't know that but still wants to help.
He's just trying to help by any way he can.
I read this as that he was raising money for Gmod.
It would have been more worthwhile for the poor sucker.
To all the people calling the an asshole, The teacher didn't know why he was selling his toys

She's a congresswoman, she's getting some god tier healthcare

Probably.
That's pretty awesome, the parents taught him good.
Also it's rare to see the media focusing on good news, it's nice for a change.
Kids are alright I guess.

This big time. I would have done this probably, doing something really noble hearted and crying later because I got rid of all my toys.
