• I think my laptop is fucked

Bear with me here, posting this on a 10 year old laptop, it's my new one that's playing shenanigans on me... I bought this new one last fall. It's a HP, can't really remember the rest. It's hard drive has already crashed once, but otherwise, the mother fucker is tip-top. Now, here's the kicker. I have a few tabs open, and decide to download avast antivirus. I just thought "yeah sure, nothing wrong with some antivirus!" I already have microsoft security essentials, but I thought having avast might satisfy my overly paranoid brain. The download finishes, and starts to quick scan. My computer freezes up, and stays like that for a long time. Nothing works, not even task manager. In a desperative rage, I hammer the shut down button until it finally dies. I try turning it on, manage to go where one chooses accounts, and press my account. The enter password thingy doesn't appear. I restart and try again, at least 5 times. Nothing works, it's been shut down (properly, not just by pressing the "on" button) and has stayed that way for some time. FP, What the fuck do I do? [editline]2nd August 2011[/editline] Ok, I turned it on, it went quickly, just like a normal startup, am now on the accounts screen and not moving a muscle. What do? [editline]2nd August 2011[/editline] Same thing happened again, it froze, I seriously need some help here...
I have the same problem on my desk computer, boot into safemode and uninstall avast. I don't know why or how Avast! does this but it is fucking annoying.
All right, did that, worked like a charm.
Just a point, you're not helping anything by having 2 antiviruses, if anything all you're going to get is a lot of what is effectively cock-blocking and infighting.
