Harry Styles: "One Direction are bigger than the Beatles"
Singer Harry Styles has said One Direction are "bigger" than The Beatles when it comes to fame.
He also made it clear the band do not believe their music is in "the same league" as the Fab Four.
"We all sat and watched the film of The Beatles arriving in America. And, to be honest, that really was like us.
"Stepping off the plane, the girls, the madness. It was exactly the same as when we got there - just 50 years earlier," he said in an interview.

Except the Beatles were good.
50 years from now nobody is going to remember One Direction existed, so I have to disagree with you guy.
Everyone aged 6-21 is going to die you theorize
oh god no
we're doomed
The guy has one Hell of an ego, I'll give him that... Too bad that's a pitifully ignorant statement.
So he's saying more people know of them, than the number of people who knew of the Beatles.
Um, no shit? There's more people to know about you man. Get over yourself, and learn a bit about percentages before you decide to compare your "fame levels" to a band like the beatles
None of us think we're in the same league as them music-wise. We'd be total fools if we did.
They know they're not as good as the Beatles, they're just comparing their popularity. I think he's wrong in that respect as well, but I wasn't exactly around when the Beatles came to America so I wouldn't know.
Who the fuck is One Direction?
I'm actually listening to Can't Buy Me Love right now. Woohoo Beatles!
[editline]no 1D in my collection though[/editline]
no 1D in my collection though
Truly, they're really headed into one direction, it's called "Into Obscurity"

Nice to see people reading the OP.
don't they sell shitty toys at toys r us? I remember something like that when I temped there.
As far as I know, no-one has yet posted themselves to One Direction, so the Beatles win.
one direction is a product off an assembly line to mimic such band's image to create a fan base that had fervor to that of the Beatles to sell merchandise and sway charts based on voting then just merchandise.
Probably was asked to say that by the agent to continue with said exploitation.

My niece is seven and she told me that One Direction is "a bunch of dumb tossers."
That's me girl.
The Beatles' lyrics in their early years were the same sort of fluff that One Direction uses today.
IMO The Beatles are highly overrated.

I read it. They're stupid. One Direction is recognized by groups of people who are alive now, and only by name.
Half the Beatles are dead, they haven't written music since '69, and yet they are still regarded as one of the most popular and influential bands ever. People from 90 to 5 know of the Beatles, and most of those people know them in a fairly intimate way. Not many people outside of the younger generation either knows, or gives a shit about One Direction.
Isn't this guy a part of OD? He got a nerve.

Yep, Beatles were a boy band

But wasn't it the same way when the Beatles started out?

overrated??? have you listened to anything beyond the first 3 albums of the beatles? because only the first 3 of their albums stuck to the basic "pop rock n roll" kind of stuff that was typical of every pop star.

ironic considering the beatles were pretty much a mass produced band too
[editline]11th February 2014[/editline]
but yeah overall i don't think one direction have enough mass appeal to ever get as big as the beatles (i can't think of any bands that really do) but i guess only time will tell
he doesn't say One D is better than them
he even says they can't compare music
"None of us think we're in the same league as them music-wise. We'd be total fools if we did.
"Fame-wise, it's probably even bigger, but we don't stand anywhere near them in terms of music."
and they probably are bigger fame wise because of the ease of information that can be spread compared to back then it's not too big of a stretch
maybe you guys don't like the one d but it's not like they're lying
But wasn't it the same way when the Beatles started out?
You have to take into context the music of the day. They were making music that not many other bands had even considered making. It was innovative; if not lyrically, with the type of music they were playing over. One Direction has none of that. They're gimmicky and sound very similar to most musicians today.
What if One Direction went to India and came back making really interesting experimental stuff?
[sp]Answer: their manager would nix it from the record and release a load of studio off-cuts as singles[/sp]
Except the Beatles were good.
he said that one direction aren't as good as the beatles in the article
I honestly don't have much of an argument with the article. No matter how much you hate one direction they are incredibly popular and he never states anywhere that that means one direction is as good or as memorable as the beatles
They're more than more popular than Jesus?
You guys are kidding me, Harry Potter is super well known

That's purely because there are WAY WAY WAY more people alive than when the beatles were around though.
"[Band that I'm in] is bigger than <objectively more famous and successful band>" - <idiot with a massive ego>
seriously I bet hundreds of variations of this statement are said every year by equally huge morons :v:
