Does anyone know how to take some footage and turn it into a "Take on Me" video? In case you've don't know what I'm talking about here's an example, skip to about 1:14: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EXxMlIExpo&feature=related If you see how it looks as if everything was drawn out on paper etc; I would like to do something like that. Preferably digitally, because frankly, I'm too lazy to draw it. (User was banned for this post ("wrong section" - GunFox))
There's ways of doing that through Sony vegas, but the result will be terribly shitty.
like how shitty are we talking?

the family guy one was good too, but I still looking for an answer, can it be done digitally?
I believe that is the technique called stereo graphing they used it on the Beastie Boys music video "shadrach" And they hand draw over the original footage. Or something or other its not a simple task.
I don't know, but every frame seems hand-drawn to me, ie you won't get anywhere near that with some crappy filter on photoshop.

I'm pretty sure they're all hand drawn.

Thats the word rotoscoping.
Rotoscoping
wait isnt rotoscoping that thing they do with all the Charles Schwab commercials?
Well either way you're not going to be able to do this on your own. Well you could but good luck keeping the frustration level down. Also the eye sees 12 frames per second as a minimum speed for things to be perceived as smooth. So just think, (I've wondered this too and I've wanted to do this), every second that passes in that video you're seeing theres 12 pieces of paper that rapidly being flipped to create what youre seeing. Considering this was back in the 80's Im still amazed at how they were able to pull this off and make it look so good.
I havnt heard this song for about 8 years. Thanks OP. [editline]01:35AM[/editline] damn automerge. Bullshit, my cellphone has something that looks (really) similar to that same effect. It's not AS good but it's very close.
Xgman, ask in the Creative section, you will get more help than you will here
Finally i get where thats from

can someone move the thread to the creative section then
1. Print every frame of your video out. 2. Trace over all the important outlines in your frame. 3. Shade each tracing to your standards. 4. Scan the tracings back on to your computer. 5. Animate.
Also can you stop posting 'FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUU' pictures? It's just annoying.
OP, it's actually not that hard, get any image manipulation program that supports layers, extract every frame that you want to rotoscope from your video, insert a second layer in each frame that you'll trace over, then compile it all in a video. I hope i explained it correctly
It won't be perfect, but what you can do is... 1. Extract all the frames from your video. 2. Find a tutorial on how to turn a photograph into a sketch (dozens on google) 3. Use batch commands in photoshop to apply the sketch effect to all the frames. 4. Put frames back together.
