Never played the game, though I heard it was good.
Chronicle is what the American version of Akira should've been, it was pretty good so I've got faith in him.
This is one of the rare cases where I think the movie should have nothing to do with the game (except fighting the giants) because who would want to watch a 12 hour movie about running through some plains.
the script had better be comprised entirely of grunts and "agro!"
"agro!"
"agro!"

this is a situation which a movie devalues games as an art medium
How'd i miss this? Also "suggesting the movie's original script by Justin Marks (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li) is no longer in consideration." I'd fucking hope not, wouldn't want anyone associated with that shit attached to a movie like this. Good director, hope he gets a good script and still follows through with the Venom movie he's also attached to.
I loved Chronicle so hopefully this turns out to be good.
"In addition this film, Trank is apparently also attached to three other movies: Fantastic Four"
pretty sure the fantastic four rumor was debunked months ago. Too lazy to check right now though.
I don't think a film can convey the feeling of desolation, serenity, and scaling mythical creatures the size of a five story building like the game did. Still if they're going to make a film about it please don't let it suck.

If you have a PS3 you should pick up the ICO & Shadow of the Colossus HD Collection. Some of the most meaningful and amazing experiences you'll ever find in gaming.
I hope it's going to be filmed in the same style as Chronicle (found footage). Maybe the horse could carry the camera (it's filming it for its blog).
Why even need a script? The less dialogue the better in this case.

scripts aren't just dialogue
but anyways this sounds stupid. what's the movie going to be, a bunch of colossus battles with ~20 minutes of silent exploration between each?

Yeah I know, but still.

Maybe in between colossi he remembers what led him up to this point? Exposition through flashbacks while he travels to the next colossus.
Shit iunno
I don't care. I'm still waiting for the Bioshock movie to be approved.

if this were any other game this post would sound pretentious and ridiculous
but for shadow of the colossus it's perfectly apt. it actually is one of the most thematic and emotionally intense games ever.
Leave it alone for fuck sake. It's a game for a reason.
To an extent, I have to agree with Drasnus. While it would be awesome to see some live-action adaption of SotC, part of what makes the game so great is the completely ambiguous, unexplained plot that serves as a distant backdrop for the gameplay. You can't get a truly coherent and engaging script out of what the game gives you unless you take a shitload of artistic license with it, which demonstrably does not end well when moving from a video game to a film.
I'm not sure how to feel about this...
So far the only "video game movie" I've liked was Silent Hill. Shadow of the Colossus was one of my all time favorites.

green screens everywhere
I hope they use the original music for all the Colossus battles.

I preferred this one. Sure, it was in the first battle, but that makes it so iconic.

I also liked the last colossus but I realize others disliked it

TBH game adaptations would work much better as animation than movies.
Never heard of Chronicle until now, damn it looks good.
Chronicle was pretty great and shadow of the collosus is amazing
I need to see this
