MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A West Tennessee nanny accused of putting large amounts of salt in the feeding tube of a disabled 8-year-old boy has been indicted on abuse and neglect charges.
Tiffany C. Johnson of Cordova was taken into custody Monday, Shelby County prosecutor Amy P. Weirich said in a statement.
The statement says Johnson, 31, took the boy to the hospital multiple times last year. Doctors say his sodium level was elevated each time, but he recovered.
The boy, who is in a wheelchair and unable to care for himself, suffered from numerous ailments that resulted in more than six hospital visits in less than half a year, reports CBS affiliate WREG.

The article mentions ANOTHER recent case like this where a mother is accused of killing her son with salt poisoning.
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- A young mother accused of killing her 5-year-old son by poisoning him with salt goes on trial this week in Westchester County, N.Y.
Lacey Spears of Scottsville, Kentucky, is charged with depraved murder and manslaughter in the death a year ago of Garnett-Paul Spears.
Prosecutors say she forced salt into a feeding tube in the boy's stomach. His sodium levels rose to dangerous levels with no medical explanation, prosecutors said, leading to a swollen brain, seizures and death.
Of course this happens here, of all places. Why does all the fucked up shit happen here?
...Go Vols?
These kind of people are unbelievable.
reminds me of the story last week of the mother who was poisoning her son with a colon infection by putting his own feces in his IV bag
Why?
There are so many different reasons we hear as to why these people do what they do. I might not ever understand it, but with all of the publicity and shame these people get when they are caught, it might help stem the tide against these kind of instances in the future.
Its really a shame on how people don't understand these people with disabilities, i have a sister who has a mentally challenge disorder, though i can deal with her and I'm usually a good brother to her. But for fuck sake if you can't handle having a child like that, give it up for adoption instead of outright killing them.
People are just fucked up now a days......
Probably Munchhausen by Proxy.
Why?
Parent makes child/pet/old parent sick intentionally, takes them to hospital/takes care of them/"saves" them, they feel like/are treated like a hero, repeat.

nobody's going to adopt a child with severe disabilities unfortunatly, and not everyone can cope with such children

Excuse me? Got a source? That's a whole different level of fucked up.

what do you expect from memphis
People sometimes snap when they care for someone with disabilities and think that this is the best solution for them.
Seen these cases before, however its normally a single parent with a disabled child,
Its easy to sit from your comfy chair and computer and judge people who may or may not have been living 8 or so years of hell for someone they love.
Exactly. I'm not sympathizing, but caring for disabled kids can be extremely difficult (especially in more severe cases - imagine taking care of yourself, your house, your job, etc everything in your life - and then worrying about someone else, literally 24/7, down to feeding and cleaning them)
That being said, I hate to jump on the "SHE DIDN'T KNOW ANY BETTER SHE WAS SICK" train so she might not necessarily have Munchhausen syndrome, but if she had snapped she probably would have done something more sudden rather than a gradual poisoning - unless she was trying to hide it and she was just flat out retarded too

In the original case it was a nanny poisoning the disabled child, so I don't exactly think that it has to do with long term care and her snapping, considering he's not really her child and I don't think she worked for this family his whole life. And, like you said, it was a gradual poisoning. Then again, she still could've snapped, who knows. In the second article, the mother DID kill her son but he wasn't disabled, this is more likely to be Munchhausen syndrome imo, especially looking at how frequently her son went to the hospital for high sodium levels.
Some fucked up people in the world.
Some worse than others unfortunately.
