At least two people have matched the winning numbers in Tuesday night's $636 million Mega Millions jackpot.
One winning ticket was sold in Georgia, and the other was sold in California, lottery officials said.
The winning numbers were 8, 14, 17, 20 and 39, with a Megaball of 7.
Someone tell me the odds of that.
thankfully facepunch gold is $637M
thankfully facepunch gold is $637M

$636,000,000.01 actually.

Someone tell me the odds of that.
As I was passing by the TV, news said it was something close to 1 in 260,000,000 odds.
Someone tell me the odds of that.
Odds of winning are 1 in 290,000,000
Chances of two winning... I have no idea.
I bet one of these people accidentally put their ticket through the wash
and they probably only get a quarter of that because of taxes
I work at a gas station. We sold over $1500 in lotto today, $1300 of which was Mega Millions.
and they probably only get a quarter of that because of taxes
Ends up being something like $3xxM after taxes
Wait americans have to pay tax on gambling winnings?
That sucks.

Its regulated gambling. The taxes taken from it (at least where I'm from) go to buying wetlands and protecting the environment

how do I sell my face punch gold?
is it measured in ego?

In Australia if you gamble you keep. They don't touch it. That actually sounds like a good idea though.

(1/290,000,000)^2 or 1 in 84100000000000000
I matched a couple numbers and won $2
I don't even know what i'd do with half that money.
Let my family live a steady life, have a fun life, and probably donate most of it.
I can't see, even in my wildest dreams, needing more than 10 million (maybe 15 million).
House
family/future kids
having fun
living comfortably
The rest really could just be donated to organizations or some good cause.
I don't even know...

Live comfortably off ~$125,000 a year for the rest of your life with ~$10,000,000

In Texas it goes into the education funding.

Yea sounds fine, with the initial expenses (new house, car, etc.)
so 12.5 million, depending on your cost of living/year, you can invest however you want if you feel like you want to do stocks/own a business/pursue an idea/start a charity . As well as live perfectly fine, while being able to help out your family.
but 10 mil is letting anyone be set for the rest of their life (+ their kid's life[lives] if they have any)

Donate? Fuck that. If Charles Darwin didn't want me us to be greedy fucks, he wouldn't have invented Spencer's Gift.
Theydont get it immediately either. they can get ~200 mil now or ~15 mil per year for a long time. You could invest 150 mil and make that money back with the upfront payment far faster than they could give it to you, so with that much capital it almost doesn't fucking matter how much taxes take out.
Being super rich has the added benefit of a sort of safety net. I'd feel so much better financially if I knew that no matter what happens, (ideally) I would never be poor.

It's also sort of boring, but imagine the power of being able to support the projects and charities that you like...
Fuck everything I just said, I don't want somebody to give a title for being batshit insane. I'll say this instead.
Congrats to the winners!

In America nature doesn't try to kill you as much, so we actively have to protect it (which is a huge shame).

Here in Canada, we just pretend pennies don't exist.

some garbage truck driver or something won 2 million and then wasted it all on gambling within a few months and went back to being a garbage truck driver
