Facebook and Oculus could choose to be excellent at hardcore games
Oh boy. They could choose to be excellent at hardcore games. Or they could choose to appeal to a wider public and gain more money. I wonder which one they'll choose. Also
and they have a unique thing they can sell to gamers - a prospect that is better and more exciting than the current generation of consoles.
"Better and more exciting" because of VR gimmick?
Hardcore gamers are on Facebook: when Activision wanted to promote the last Call of Duty game, they chose to throw buckets of cash at Facebook. They say that using Facebook, they were able to reach 55% of US males aged 18-24. In three days.
Yeah..
I'm telling you now, if OR asks me to share anything, and I mean ANYTHING, while I'm playing a game, I'm chucking it.
Why's there a screenshot of Euro Truck Simulator 2?
Oculus chose Facebook? Yeah, more like the other way around.

That's like selling your Dell Ultrasharp because you got a pop up. [editline]26th March 2014[/editline]
Oculus chose Facebook? so the tl;dr is that they wanted to suckle on that sweet money tit?
so the tl;dr is that they wanted to suckle on that sweet money tit?
The tldr is that selling a niche product to a wider consumer base is really fucking difficult and requires lots and lots of money. Which Facebook has just provided with money AND advertisement.
so the tl;dr is that they wanted to suckle on that sweet money tit?
The tl;dr is this could have negative implications but it could also have really positive ones and there's no way to know until they happen. As the team has stated, they can potentially reduce time to market as well as the eventual cost of the product which will help a LOT when bringing it to market.
Stop being so dramatic and thinking it's the end of the world because OR got more funding.
Stop being so dramatic and thinking it's the end of the world because OR got more funding.
There is a chance that it will ruin the Oculus Rift though.
Correction: $$$
There is a chance that it will ruin the Oculus Rift though.
And by chance you mean likelihood greater than 80%.
I thought you guys were joking when you said facebook would ruin the oculus rift, what makes you think they'll force anything into it? I highly doubt they would do that, stop being so pessimistic

From what I was reading in reddit, as far as I know Oculus "chose" Facebook because Facebook offered them a lot of money and then forced them (or they forced themselves) into making and finalising a decision on that day without really consulting anyone.
Would you had prefered Occulus to choose Microsoft and had that thing ended up being an XBOX ONE ADD-ON Instead? I don't think so.
