Hi everyone. Here's my list of parts i plan to purchase and throw together. I'd like to know if they're all compatible, if i should get a cheaper version of the same part etc. I'm looking to build a semi-powerful gaming and entertainment device (hence the Blu-Ray drive) Thanks in advance. Oh and yes, I have to purchase from Amazon. :( BUDGET: $900
Case - $40 http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Elite-Tower-RC-310-BWN1-GP/dp/B0028ACYMC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308543047&sr=8-1 AMD Phenom 3.2GHz - $112 http://www.amazon.com/AMD-HDZ955FBGMBOX-Phenom-3-2GHz-Retail/dp/B002TQYUAE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1308551805&sr=8-2 4GB DDR3 RAM - $40 http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-1333MHz-PC3-10666-240-pin-CMX4GX3M1A1333C9/dp/B003ZDJ42O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1308543066&sr=8-3 XFX 6850 1GB - $165 http://www.amazon.com/XFX-6850-775M-Graphics-HD685XZNFC/dp/B0047ZH7FU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1308552702&sr=8-3 Motherboard - $70 http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Socket-Micro-Motherboard-M4A78LT-M/dp/B0046HP4ZE/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1308551965&sr=8-5 Sound Card - $30 http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Labs-SB0570L4-Blaster-Audigy/dp/B000LP0R3E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308543005&sr=8-1 HDD Samsung 1TB - $60 http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Spinpoint-Cache-Desktop-HD103SJ/dp/B001U3S5S0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308553031&sr=8-1 Speakers - $10 http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-S120-2-0-Multimedia-Speakers/dp/B000R9AAJA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308542956&sr=8-1 Monitor - $100 http://www.amazon.com/Acer-CV3WP-E05-19-Inch-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B003D59FDW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308542884&sr=8-1 Logitech Wireless Keyboard & Mouse - $30 http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Desktop-MK320-Keyboard/dp/B003VAGXZC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1308543140&sr=8-3 Blu-Ray Drive - $60 http://www.amazon.com/LITE--Blu-ray-Internal-Optical-iHOS104/dp/B002EE996Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308543194&sr=8-1 Surge Protector - $7 http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-6-Outlet-Office-Surge-Protector/dp/B000IF51UQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308543215&sr=8-1 Network IC - $30 http://www.amazon.com/Intel-PWLA8391GT-1000-Network-Adapter/dp/B00030DEQE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308543254&sr=8-1 Wi-Fi - $8 http://www.amazon.com/802-11g-Wireless-WIFI-Adapter-Desktop/dp/B003OBHE60/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308543287&sr=8-1 USB2 Card - $6 http://www.amazon.com/Syba-SD-VIA-5U-5-port-Card-Chip/dp/B000JFJZGG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1308543333&sr=8-2 Power Supply - $60 http://www.amazon.com/OCZ-ModXStream-Pro-Power-Supply/dp/B001EZMEZO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1308552897&sr=8-4
Updated list as of: 6/20/11
amazon is bad for PC parts use newegg
amazon is bad for PC parts use newegg
Unfortunately I have to order from Amazon due to complications. Did you even read the fucking thread?
the motherboard won't work with the RAM/CPU, the GPU is way too weak for modern games, WD greens are too slow to be used as boot drives (assuming that'll be your only HDD) to be honest I don't think you'll need the sound card, since you're running $10 speakers, and as far as I know most modern ATi/nVidia cards have HDMI ports that decode 5.1/7.1
Why are you getting a sound card if you're going to be using 10 dollar speakers? As far as my experience goes, sound cards only make a difference if you're going to be using some high quality headphones. Don't get a "green" hard drive. They are slow and not good for boot drives. The Spinpoint F3 is faster, same size, and even cheaper if I remember correctly. If it's more expensive, it isn't by very much at all. The RAM is not compatible with the motherboard. RAM is DDR3, mobo is DDR2. You are not going to get a "semi-powerful" gaming experience with a 50 dollar video card. You don't need a PCI network card, the mobo should have a built in ethernet port that works just fine. Why are you getting a wireless keyboard and mouse? If it's a desktop and you're working on a budget, just go wired so you can save some money and have more reliability. That case seems pretty bad IMO. Doesn't have wire management holes and you'd have to take out the mobo if you wanted to install a heat sink with a backplate. Also, it only comes with one fan so airflow probably won't be very good at all. You do not need a 700W PSU for that, especially with that baby video card and whatnot. You're much better off buying a higher quality PSU with lower wattage for the same price.
also I can understand the wifi card but do you need the network card/extra USB slots? also get a better PSU [editline]20th June 2011[/editline] no merge
And if you're going to be using wireless internet, why get the network card? If you're going to be using wired internet, why get the wireless? My mind is full of fuck.

Keep everything else. *I don't know the quality of coolmax powersupplies, so i recommended a ocz 500w one. 500w should be able to run this system it's very similar to the one im using. Tried to keep it around the same price as your build right now. Replaced/removed $469 worth of parts, added $467 worth of parts. It's hard to find deals on computers parts on amazon.
Just wondering, for what reason can you only buy from Amazon? [editline]20th June 2011[/editline] Also, a 5450 is probably not much better than the i5 2400 IGPU, just use that until you can get a ~$150 video card in the future. It can run Portal 2 on high just fine, I'm sure it will run most other games, too. If that's not really an option, then go for a AM3 system.

Doesn't matter. :) Thanks everyone for your replies, without them I would have been totally fucked.
