SIMFEROPOL, March 4 (RIA Novosti) – A senior Crimean lawmaker said on Monday that representatives of three southern Ukrainian administrative capitals expressed willingness to become a part of the autonomous republic if its autonomy is broadened in a referendum.
Deputy speaker of Crimea’s Supreme Council Serhiy Tsekov said Crimean authorities had received calls from “representatives of local administrative bodies” in Mykolaiv, Kherson and Odessa.
“They think that they should be together with Crimea,” he said.
Ukraine’s mainly ethnic Russian-populated region of Crimea is now at the center of the ongoing crisis in the country as pro-Russia groups move to distance themselves from a reformed national parliament that ousted President Viktor Yanukovych a week ago.
The Crimean parliament voted last week to hold a referendum on greater autonomy on March 30.
It's spreading! How many more cities will join, and is this a good thing?
It's spreading, like a disease. When will it stop?
It's the will of the people, why are you against that?
maybe if ukraine wasn't a shithole
It's the will of the people, why are you against that?
Because Russia might see it as a reason to invade more of Ukraine.
I almost want to call BS, all those cities have been very quiet until now. Not only that, but this gives Putin a free pass to push out of Crimea and "protect Ethnic Russians." there as well.

*coughPalestinecough*
*coughPalestinecough*
what does that even have anything to do with this thread
It's starting to seem more and more like East Ukraine and West Ukraine is going to be a thing soon..
Apparently this was said by a crimean politician, obviously no chance of bias there.
This however, true or false; Could be all the excuse Russia needs to decide to annex all of Ukraine.
It's the will of the people, why are you against that?
A pretext to invasion.
It's the will of the people, why are you against that?
ya just like the french navy and french territories gladly wanted to join the third reich after they had already taken control of the goverment, people are always willing to go with the guy who has tanks on their doorstep
[editline]3rd March 2014[/editline]
whats funny is even if russia goes ahead and puts down this stuff and takes back kiev, they can only keep their army there for so long, once the puppet goverment goes back in action people are going to be back in the streets and this'll start all over again, there is no end-game to a russian restoration, however with crimea they can at least set up a goverment there and create the next isreal/palistine conflict
Just going "It's the will of the people" is a crap excuse. Sometimes people are stupid and act against their own best interest, and just saying "Well, only they can say what is best for them." is dishonest because people will readily opt to do something that is genuinely and blatantly bad for them for stupid reasons. So just because its the will of the people doesn't mean its not fucking dumb.
wait thats not funny, thats horrible

The same argument could be applied to the protesters who initially sparked this whole thing.
Christ FP never ceases to amaze with its hilarious double standards and feeble, vacillating views on everything.

How is closer integration with Europe "bad for them"?
[editline]4th March 2014[/editline]
Oh wait it's Melnek never mind.

Nothing, what I'm saying is that the argument doesn't work because it goes both ways. I could claim that European integration would be bad for the protesters because they don't really know what they want.
It's daft logic. Why is suddenly the will of the people not relevant anymore? Forget the fact that it may or may not serve as a pretext for an invasion. If the people no longer wish to be part of Ukraine then why is their will being overlooked just because Russia is being a cunt?
I honestly do not understand how what I'm saying here is somehow seen as dumb or whatever. Please elaborate.

You keep saying "the will of the people" but from all the news and their sources it seems more like "the will of the people who have a gun to their head"

How so? The pro-Russian protests began ages before Russia even entered Ukraine and spread even further once Russian troops were on Ukrainian soil, presumably because the people felt safer and more confident.

No one said Crimea shouldn't be part of Russia if the people of Crimea want to be.
People are saying Crimea shouldn't be part of Russia because Russia has landed troops there and there were no democratic votes on what should be done with the place.

More like Smaller Ukraine and bigger Russia.
Soon as Crimea gets loose it'll suddenly vote to become a state or municipality, whatever the fuck it's called, to Russia.
Russia has been exerting ALOT of propaganda and other shit it's disgusting.

It's already an autonomous republic within Ukraine. I'm pretty sure Russia has those things too, wouldn't be too difficult for it to change to one withing Russia.

Is that seriously what upset most people? The fact that the invasion was not entirely announced or decided properly on paper even though everyone in Crimea welcomed it with open arms?
If so then I have horribly misjudged FPs views on this.

We don't have this kinds of stuff. Or, to be more precise, all of our regions are as autonomous as Crimea.

Well, it seems like there are a few types:

Oh suddenly you people are blindly defending territorial integrity of every country, and at the same time blindly recognize Kosovo. That be some weird shit

And all of them have exactly the same actual level of autonomy despite some differences. Because if national republics were more autonomous, we in other regions would be pretty pissed.
Russians just occupied Crimea, and now they are sending forces to the eastern. From what I've read on Mass Media, they just want to calm down anarchists and hopefully noone will get hurt and war has to be not declared at all. G7(8) just make it worse though.

Well there has been no indication of anarchist/nazi action anywhere in the East or Crimea so far, not that we're aware of?
