The name leaves me a bit uneasy, I instantly assume some knock-off facebook game or RTS. If they try and ~re-invent~ the series by throwing the world into a random genre it's probably gonna go downhill and fast. It could also be some open-world RPGish type thing where you play as Kain trying to take over Nosgoth.
I really, really hope this is good. I also hope it's nothing like Defiance. All I want is a modern game similar to the first Soul Reaver. Actually if Amy Hennig isn't involved I'm worried.

Particularly if they took a page out of Prince of Persia's book (the cell shaded semi-spin off one) and had it that you could approach conquering the world in any order you saw fit but as you take regions the areas that are left to conquer alter and become more challenging.

It could probably end up being some sort of clan war even, between humans or vamps. [editline]10th February 2013[/editline]
I really, really hope this is good. As long as they don't retcon anything or ignore what's been established the story should remain intact.
I miss the original Blood Omen, it was the shit.
It could also be some open-world RPGish type thing where you play as Kain trying to take over Nosgoth.
In terms of setting, it could probably work rather well; it could make place during the time between Blood Omen 2 and Soul Reaver, where Kain raises his vampiric lieutenants and takes over Nosgoth after defeating the Sarafan Lord/Hylden General. That's the main part of the Legacy of Kain games that we never really saw; Blood Omen 2 half-filled the gap between Blood Omen and Soul Reaver with his initial war and subsequent defeat at the hands of the Sarafan Lord and his Nexus Stone, but we never saw Kain's "vampiric empire" with the glory days of the vampire clans before Raziel got cast into the abyss. Even though it's strangely-appropriate that the new Legacy of Kain has popped up 10 years after the last game, I am super-sceptical about Square Enix. After all, the recent Final Fantasy games are deeply concerning in terms of how bad they are. However, hopefully Crystal Dynamics is still behind the reins of the IP, and if the new Tomb Raider turns out as great as it seems to be (rape aside), then I will be proven wrong in my fears, and will have confidence in CD still being the right people to make the new Legacy of Kain. I dunno what War for Nosgoth is gonna be, but three things I really wanna see from the revived IP are a remake of the original Blood Omen in the modern Soul Reaver-y kind of 3D action-adventure genre, a game set during the time of the vampire clans, and maybe one that continues where Defiance left off. Also, they had better get a very good VA for the Elder God; Tony Jay truly was the voice of that sinister daemon-squid, and without an amazing voice it simply would not do the character justice. Also, Tony Jay voiced Judge Claude Frollo in Hunchback of Notre Dame, for those who don't remember. Yeah; it's gonna take a lot of effort to top that voice.
Man I remember when games had interesting lore and characters
I hope it's good, and I hope they find a writer at least half as good as Amy Hennig. And a voice actor who can do a good impression of The Late, Great Tony Jay (although part of me thinks he's irreplaceable). Then again, I also hoped they would fix Soul Reaver 2 so it would actually run on modern computers, but that has yet to happen.

They'll have given it to either CD or Eidos Montreal is my guess. I actually somewhat hopeful it's EM, they did good with DXHR and I'm eager to see them get more stuff out.
I have still yet to play Human Revolution, but I've heard it's pretty great aside from some problems. Not as good as the original Deus Ex, but then again what was?
Haha whoa, each time I open these PCGamesN titles and scroll down the page immediately, my Google Chrome browser just freezes up, so I keep scrolling frantically up and down with the mousewheel to generate more lag, and when it bursts, I get this weird bleeping sound out of my browser and then it smoothens out. It's funny as hell.

Not even in bugs just in general design choices, the most undeniable thing would be boss fights and arguably the length (since sections were cut out long ago). Besides the boss fights you could still pull off non-lethal runs etc. But to say it's their first title, they've done better than most veteran studios are doing now.
It worries me where the series will go in terms of story, style, genre and gameplay. Besides, without the late Tony Jay, who will play the Elder God? Those are giant, tentacle shoes to fill.
I miss the original Blood Omen, it was the shit.
woah woah woah hold your shit Blood Omen is related to Soul Reaver? Did not realise this, going to have to reinstall Blood omen 2
woah woah woah hold your shit Blood Omen is related to Soul Reaver? Did not realise this, going to have to reinstall Blood omen 2
They're important moreso in SR2 and Defiance than in SR1.
Kain is deified... (The background song is a slightly edited version of Ozar Midrashim by Information Society.) It's good that Square Enix picked this up, they did a damn fine job with Human Revolution.
Honestly I could never really get into any of the games other than the original Blood Omen. Soul Reaver 1 was pretty fun, but it got really boring to me after actually getting the Soul Reaver, Blood Omen 2 was absolute horseshit as far as I am concerned, and I never played the other two. First Blood Omen will always hold a special place in my heart, even though it litterally had the worst combat system of all time.
I loved Soul Reaver 1 and 2, but I hated Defiance for ruining the camera and turning it into a God of War clone.
I loved Soul Reaver 1 and 2, but I hated Defiance for ruining the camera and turning it into a God of War clone.
That's strange, because it came out over a year before God of War.
That's strange, because it came out over a year before God of War.
My mistake, my point is that they changed to a fixed camera perspective with repetitive hack n slash combat.
My mistake, my point is that they changed to a fixed camera perspective with repetitive hack n slash combat.
True, but at least it was fun for what it was. I too would much prefer something more open and not being bound to a seriously nerfed sword.
Meh, although it isn't my favourite, I kinda liked the way I beat my enemies in Defiance. It felt so... Good.
