OCZ Z-Drive m84 OCZSSDPCIE-ZDM841T PCI-E 1TB PCI-Express interface (x8) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
$3,799.00
The shipping's too much though.
In all seriousness, what the fuck? $3,799.00 for a hard drive? I mean, one Terabyte is a pretty good amount of space, but seriously?
key word: SSD
.........
Why does it use PCI-e?
Why would anyone buy it at that price?

Holy Fuck!
Read: Up to 870MB/s
Write: Up to 780MB/s
:sigh:, OP evidently doesn't know the difference.
Why does it use PCI-e?
Because it's a very fast bus; much faster than SATA, and is less restricted

That is epically awesome

Holy shit.

What the fuck? I thought SSDs had shitty write speeds.
Why does it use PCI-e?
Higher speeds.
What the fuck? I thought SSDs had shitty write speeds.
That would make them nearly useless
That would make them nearly useless
Well, I believe everyone was using them as just drives to put their OS on, and nothing more.
Well, I believe everyone was using them as just drives to put their OS on, and nothing more.
That has more to do with the $:GB ratio than anything else.
Well, I believe everyone was using them as just drives to put their OS on, and nothing more.
Right, because they read faster than a HDD and will therefor boot faster.
Oh how I wish I was rich.
Oh how I wish I was rich.
A small 64gig will do the trick and isn't that much.
That has more to do with the $:GB ratio than anything else.
Well, I also assumed companies were also using them for networked storage that's rarely/never edited.
I must obtain this
I'd buy it if I won the lottery just for shits and giggles.
So since it's PCI-e, how do you set it up? Will the bios just detect it as a hard drive, or do you have to do some tomfoolery?

Think of it as a hard drive connected to a PCI SATA controller, works basically the same way
Damn thats fast.
Wait, I didn't think you could boot from pci-e?
Damn nice speed though
This would equal how many velociraptors in RAID? I assume a lot
Don't worry when you spend $3,799.00 you still have to pay $2.99 worth of shipping. :smug:
I think I'll wait a couple of years for these to drop down to sane prices before I buy.
Wait, this mister has a point.
The SSD boots from the SATA controller in your PCIe, right?
Cuz my mobo doesnt have a PCIe boot option.
And I'm ashamed of my noobiness on SSDs. :ohdear:
It has a set of SSDs and a hardware RAID card. The RAID card works in the same way that your onboard SATA ports do. I myself have a hardware RAID card and booting from it is fine.

You cannot boot from these.
