• Upgrade for i7 or wait for AM3+/SB

So, got that upgrade itch and I'm considering an upgrade in the next six months, would the extra few months wait for the new Bulldozer cores or sandy bridge be worth it?
I'd suggest you wait, AM3 and SB should be coming out in a year.
I would upgrade to an i7.
Wait until your PC can't do what you need it to do.
Specs?
C2D q6600 and 4890
C2D q6600 and 4890
Wait if your computer still does and plays what you want, a reformat could always help if it's getting slow. I'm on an E8400 and I used to have the 9800GTX. I love my new 5850 but when I think about it, I don't use it. I never play anything other than starcraft 2 or command and conquer 3, and that's only like once a week for an hour or so. It would run perfect, and oh yes it did, on the older card, so it was a waste of money, should've waited till in about a year or more and just gotten a larger upgrade, instead of this stop in the middle. Just my words, if you can afford it and play games that top your system now, then upgrade.
Yeah OP, your comp is really still in the high performance category of PC's. The Q6600 was, and is a great CPU, and the 4890 still maxes most of my games (everything minus JC2 @ 1920 x 1200, 4x AA, 4x AF - I think). I'm doing an i7 upgrade right now, but I have a pretty bad CPU for intense games (Phenom II X3 720). Considering if you play at 2560 x 1600 and the game is CPU intensive, I would wait. Because you have no idea what Bulldozer will bring us, or AM3+.
Bulldozer is apparently going to be "Revolutionary" while SB is going to be more of the same but better in every way.
C2D q6600 and 4890
I have a similar setup, its proving itself but it is crapping out atm. I'd just go for it.
