Between 20 and 25 ISIS fighters wearing Iraqi Army uniforms infiltrated al-Asad airbase Friday -- the sprawling western Iraqi base where 400 American forces are training Iraqi troops -- and tried to enter the base, military officials said.
The ISIS fighters were killed as Iraqi forces repelled the attack, officials said, and no U.S. military service members were affected by the attack. A statement released by Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve confirmed the attack.

Maybe we should put a sign outside the base reminding everybody that American troops are not currently in Iraq in a combat role.

Innocent civilians aren't in a combat role either but that rarely seems to stop them.

American news only care about American lives, I guess.
The first wave of ISIS attackers detonated suicide vests at the base’s perimeter, Kirby said, and they were followed by a second wave of 10 to 15 fighters who tried to breach the perimeter.
“They were immediately engaged by members of the Iraqi army, the 7th Infantry of the Iraqi Army, and all were killed,” Kirby said, noting there were no Iraqi Army casualties in the incident, which he described as short in duration.
Seems like the US trainers did a good job with the Iraqi army
Yeah fending off 8 suicide bombers and 10-15 fighters with no casualties to the Iraqi defenders is pretty damn impressive.
I'm impressed to see that the Iraqi Army is becoming a formidable force again, a nice change to see after Mosul.

Majority of that heavy lifting was done by the Kurdish Peshmerga.
I'm honestly still wondering how the middle east will handle the Kurds once ISIS is defeated, I'm sure the Kurds have been wanting a real, physical Kurdistan for a very long time as an actual country.
Makes me wonder how morale really is on their side

Impressive I agree.
But I have to say that the ISIS are pants on head retarded.
"Look, the infidels have spotted us! Explode now!"
"But we won't even hurt the–"
*Boom*
"LOOK! THEY DID NO DAMAGE, CHARGE THE INFIDEL FORTIFICATIONS!"
the Iraqi army are looking more well equipped as of late too.

Their current day kit compared to their Saddam era kit is probably three quarters of a century worth of advancement
Say what you wanna say about the US but they know their shit regarding warfare.

They had enough experience. I mean haven't they been in perpetual war for decades now?

If you start counting from ww1 and every minor conflict/major conflict in between then yeah, they've been at it for the better part of a century now.
america wouldn't be america without a war raging
if it ain't foreign it's on the homefront
i may hate this country and the inequality that it offers for its civilians sometimes
but damn me if we dont have a rock hard military background. good for those boys.
I swear man its like they actually want to be wiped from the face of the earth. They really are doing a good job of poking the bear.
