Honestly, if any voice actor expects to get paid alot they're deluded, they're doing the voice work of a character, they're not developing the game, they're creating assets or sound effects, they're voicing either 1 character or multiple depending on what they were hired for, but that's it, I'm not saying voice acting isn't something to be paid for, there's some good talent out there and they do deserve to be paid for the work they do of course, but if they're expecting to make alot of money out of doing 1 or 2 jobs at a time they're being idiotic. Trying to find out how much they make on average per year isn't really representative of every company mind you, but if they're getting like £25,000 as their salary and are demanding more, they're getting a bit greedy if their hours are equal or less than someone making that amount in a more typical job. Honestly though I don't know 100% how voice actors work in how much they get paid or how they get paid, be it per hour, per day, per job or whatever, I haven't got a fucking clue, I just know about companies spending too much money hiring a professional voice actor/actress for a job when they could spend less and still have the same level of quality.

It sounds like you wanna be angry about something, but haven't a shit to give about learning why you should be angry about it and remain ignorant to feed off this negative perception you've conjured up in your head.

I don't have a link to their demands but back when I read it it seemed more than fair. Edit: Here are the SAG-AFTRA pages on the issue (or the ones I found, there may be more in depth stuff). Basically they want a bonus for every 2 million copies sold or online subscribers, up to a total of 8 million copies, for 4 separate bonuses which total $3,300 i.e. if a game sells 4 million copies the VAs get a bonus of $1,650, if it sells 8 million they get a bonus of $3,300 (over up to 4 payments of $825). They're also asking for regular breaks and for water to be provided, and a limit on how many hours per day and week they're asked to do. All of which seems entirely reasonable to me.
*stuff*
I think you should see some videos of voice actors doing voices in video games. In general, voice acting is a very exhausting job and requires you to sometimes repeat lines over and over and over and over again. It's really not an easy job. Voice actors carry a lot of the game with their voices for the characters that you encounter, so they are a central part when it comes to RPG and action games. Their strike is understandable from my position.

There is also a second part to it, for those interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7mu4JN_FOA

For some games, the right voice actor is literally everything. sorry but any old asshole that sounds like peewee hermin off the streets can't play Geralt of Rivia or Trevor from GTA5. It isn't that simple [editline]6th June 2017[/editline] If it wasn't for actors, LA Noire wouldn't exist

We need more trained voice actors in the west. Like, waaay more. Triple at least. I just did a quick count, and realised I've heard Steve Blum four times in the last week. He's so ubiquitous that he's basically in a category of his own. His wikipedia article doesn't even mention that he did Company of Heroes. "What kinda voice should we use for the tutorial? Deep, strong, or Steve Blum?" And by god do we need better female voice actors for anime dubs. I could count them all on my hands, and I swear they're all reading from the same manual. I'm gonna flip if I hear another main character getting the "generic agreeable american girl voice" treatment. If you're a female, you don't need to be 'putting on' a female voice. You've got one embedded in you already
I feel like the strike would make more progress if people like Nolan North stopped doing roles, but instead he's actually against them :v:

You know who I think nobody gives enough respect to? The actors who have to portray all the growly orcs, mercenaries, demons, and beastmen gamers spend hours upon hours killing. We all know how badly our throat hurts when we get into a shouting match with someone, but I don't think we have a good frame of reference for the stress on your throat when you have to scream at the top of your lungs using the deepest part of your diaphragm, and having to do multiple takes to get it right. Cheers to you, Mister Voice Actor Who Did Those Really Cool Zombie Screams.
