http://www.businessinsider.com/coca-cola-cuts-gay-wedding-from-irish-ad-2014-1
The UK and Norwegian versions of the ad showed a joyous wedding celebration of a marriage between two men, but the Irish gay publication Eile Magazine noticed the scene was missing from the ad when it was brought to Ireland. Instead, the Irish version showed an interracial marriage.
That's odd, but I can't say I'm that surprised.
Probably because gay marriage is illegal here and there's a referendum coming up. Coca Cola probably don't want to appear to support either side.
So they used a different marketing tactic in a market where they believed it would get better results. So what?
Probably because gay marriage is illegal here and there's a referendum coming up. Gay marriage is still a highly controversial topic in Ireland, not surprised they want to stay as neutral as possible while still conveying the same message (interracial marriage is more widely accepted, but still).
They might be similar ads, but they're different. Both have some completely different scenes. It's really just a media beat up, and that's it.
Regardless of the multicultural\sexual messages, Those ads are so poorly made.. What happened Coca ' Cola, did you fire your marketing team and replace them with monkeys smoking cigarettes?
Considering how Catholic the irish population is I suppose it would be more accepted
Most of the younger population doesn't have a religion, at most would say they believe in a God but aren't any more religious than that. High rates of Catholicism is an Irish stereotype that will soon no longer be valid, it's phasing out with the passing devout elderly and people with more to worry about than church. [editline]3rd January 2014[/editline] Not to mention all the child abuse scandals that have recently come to light.
Nowadays an ad featuring a monkey drinking coke would come under fire from dozens of animal wrongs groups.
i'd be more concerned with an ad showing a human drinking coke because coke is basically semi-edible battery acid.

I really hope that advertisements aren't suddenly held to the same diversity standards that say... school textbooks are. Although it was always fun to get a new textbook and play "find the cripple" There was always at least one crippled kid in any textbook with pictures of people. Always.

The ad in the article: I like it because it has the same values and view of life as I do.
I'm not sure what's better about the advert: being told to 'believe' by a company that has union activists murdered, or the lone acoustic guitar accompaniment being shown for a song with, as far as I can tell, no acoustic guitar parts.
