• New Rig Reboots When Gaming
    17 replies, posted
Hello gentlemen. First off, I'd like to state a few things. I am not experienced with building rigs or fixing parts. I want everyone to refrain from saying the rig I own is a bad rig, unless you have logical reasoning, thanks. I just bought this rig and finally built it two days ago. In the past few days, I've had some problems. Whenever I would try to play certain games, the comp would reboot like it was overheating. Also, there is no BSOD message or warning when it does. Everything goes black, hear the comp make the restart sound, then it loads up like nothing ever happened. I have the fans that came in my case running and my heatsink. I have the correct graphics driver for my GPU. (Geforce 320.49) Games that happen to reboot in under 45 seconds - 3 minutes; before we fixed the thermal paste a little bit: Call of Juarez Gunslinger - 45 seconds GTAIV - 1 minute Garrys Mod - 12 seconds multiplayer (just loading in), two minutes singleplayer (after spawning stuff) (Yes, this will be included in the list as an example, I really do not need help for the game itself.) Batman Arkham Asylum - A while( like maybe an hour or two then reboot, sometimes even 1 minute loaded in) (Note that these aren't the only games, there are probably many mores game that would reboot. These are the ones I've been trying to play the most recent) When we fixed the thermal paste a bit: Call of Juarez Gunslinger - 7 minutes never rebooted (I could of played for a while.) GTAIV - Same shit Garrys Mod - Same shit Batman Arkham Asylum - Varies on what I said up there^ Now even more games that I could play for hours on end are rebooting. IE: Alice Madness Returns, Killing Floor, etc. BUT GUESS WHAT DOESN'T REBOOT? IT'S ArmA 3 BETA. WHICH ISN'T OPTIMIZED AT ALL. And it makes my whole system hot but, the other games do not. PSU is 1000W Heatsink is the Cooler Master V8 180W Case is AZZA Genesis 9000 CSAZ-9000B Black 0.8mm SECC ATX Full Tower Computer Case Ventilation is pretty decent. Will now Post specs. Need help as quick as possible.
**Impatient post apology, soz.
Lol seriously?
I was going to help, but I can't stand when someone with 2 posts goes impatient over free help from volunteers. It's not a fucking helpdesk with a SLA here.

More specific on the PSU? - Even though it wouldn't make sense with some of it working, and some of it not. Also, which nvidia drivers are you using? And have you tried rolling back to some older ones? And just for safety, try running Prime95 and/or Furmark then run HWMonitor at the side and see if temps get high (even though nothing seemed weird on the stuff you linked). Aaaaand finally, did you check if everything is even plugged in?

The TEMPS do not get high. Nothing overheats. I have a video with three examples. I will post the link. [editline]21st July 2013[/editline] Why is it that ArmA 3 Beta is the only game that I am able to play while my other games reboot like that?

Also does Windows Event Viewer say anything?
How high is the CPU & GPU usage during ArmA? Also does Windows Event Viewer say anything?
The CPU and GPU are pretty much never high. I mean the GPU sometimes, but not all the time. I'm also referring to every game and not just ArmA. events:

Did you try running furmark & prime95 simultaneously?
just tell us what the PSU model is, it makes the most sense. [editline]21st July 2013[/editline] I suggest going into your uEFI / BIOS and making sure the CPU stuff is all on auto or set properly, and your RAM as well.

The PSU is a OCZ vertex 1000W. I believe.

Most likely problems: 1) CPU heatsink not mounted properly. OR since it's a Haswell, the heat spreader could have bad contact with the CPU die. If it's the latter, you can't fix it without voiding warranty. 2) Wrong type of RAM used (IE. RAM that requires 1.6v+, but is being run at 1.5v) Gotta get new RAM if this is the case because max DDR3 voltage on Intel CPUs is 1.575v, unless you want to burn the memory controller out in 6 months or less. 3) Wrong drivers installed (Windows drivers and WU drivers are not proper drivers.) 4) Shitty PSU. 5) Garbage motherboard brand.

I have been in and out of the hospital for the past week. I can give you the information right now. I've been having these for a while now. Sorry man. The RAM should be right. The mobo was picky about it. So we had to settle for two 8GB DDr3 2133MHz because it wouldn't accept anything lower than that. Also, the mobo is picky about the brand and we couldn't use the Corsair Vengeance 16GB x4 We've rolled back on GPU drivers and all that jazz. The CPU AND the heatsink are on good and comfortably.
Yeah give more info about your Ram I think that is what is causing your problems here, I did an improper overclock on my ram and it shut just like that. Really there is something about your ram do a memtest on it. 2133 is actually going to provide problems for any motherboard or any gaming system, down clock it to 1600 with 8-8-8-24 timings or similar see if that fixes your problem not without doing the memtest first. Also check your motherboard cpu power connectors, if you have not used the 8 pin connector then that can be a cause of the problem as well.
Connectors are fine. Memtest? Is there a link?
just... google it? http://www.memtest.org/
just... google it? http://www.memtest.org/
Odd enough. It was the PSU.
